I bought the TRD Pro Skid Plate from my local dealer in Jackson MS to install on a 2024 TRD ORP Premium. The bolts that came with it, along with the pre-installed spacers went on with no problem. No issues. I used the bolts supplied with the Skid plate. I did not use the bolts I removed from the old black steel TRD ORP skid plate. Easy as pie. No issues. A little anti seize on the bolts and torqued to 22 ft-lbs. Perfect.

Jason! I just wanted to say Thank You! I was always curious about doing my own oil changes and you gave me the confidence to go for it! So I’m happy to say I just completed my oil change for my 2020 4Runner. I even upgraded my oil filter housing like you did! Huge feeling of accomplishment! Super excited to do a oil change on my 14 Tundra in the near future!

Jason you really do a great job with your videos. Perfectly laid out and edited. Plus all the additional effort with chapter markers! Awesome stuff! Keep being you!

Awesome video! When you get to 15k miles on your 4Runner, I would love a propeller shaft lubrication video (if you feel so inclined). There are other videos out there, but none are anywhere your near the standard of your videos. Your explanations and videos are excellent, keep it up!

Good video....but not the "best". I would add the torque spec for the filter housing (18 ft lbs) and the torque spec for the filter housing drain plug (10 ft lbs). Also, PLEASE PEOPLE don't use a tap to install the TRD skid plate! The threads are there, they're just filled with gunk from manufacturing. If you're a gun owner, use a bore brush (I used a .38 special bore brush) and some gun solvent and run it through the holes where the aft bolts go a few times to get the threads good and clean. Now the bolts will go in like butter, I guarantee it. For the love of all things holy don't go tapping new threads in your brand new truck! Also, you overfilled the oil. Your dipstick is showing that you are in the "excessive" area (ref: pg, 410 of 2021 4Runner Owner's Manual). Lastly, the plastic filter housing is totally fine, especially when using the latest version of the Motivx tool that doesn't even touch the tabs. Sorry for busting your chops a little but people need to know the correct way to do maintenance, not the YouTube way.

That Motivix filter tool is the best one made for the Toyota’s. It’s forged unlike the other stamped models. I’ve got it for my sienna and also got there threaded funnel that threads into the oil cap threading so no more funnels falling over when pouring.

This is a positive comment for the youtube algorithm. Also, you are a great channel! Found you with the GMRS video and have been loving it ever since.

Thumbs up for also owning a 5th gen 4runner and a GTI! Clearly we have similar taste. Mine's a 6th gen but I also am a Liqui Molly snob for it.

The OEM plastic oil filter canister will go the life of the car as long as you don't over tighten it. Also, no one at the dealer ever removes the oil filter plug. They just remove the whole canister but I can see how that is a bit more messy. The blue drain plug gasket is reusable but it's so cheap most people replace it each time.

Howdy from Palouse, WA! Great video! I have a 2019 SR5 4Runner and ran out of the free dealer oil changes. Took it back to them for the last oil change in January and they charged me $106 and didn't even top off fluids, or vacuum, or any of the other perks normal oil change places do. So, got in my OEM filter cartridge and Mobil 1 this week and started looking at videos. Yours is the best and I will be ordering the new metal housing and tool.

Will that aluminum filer housing fit a 2016 4Runner?

Great video. Any insight into where I can find the metal after market piece?

Do you think it’s possible to install a sandwich plate adaptor for oil pressure/temp readings?

First time visiting your channel, but gave it a like and subscribe for the sheer entertainment value! Oh and thanks for the great content too - will be doing my oil change soon and appreciate the walk through. Good call on the Kirkland oil - Project Farm just reviewed it and it is an exceptional oil for the price!

Ideally you want to lube the zerk fittings at every oil change.

Finally got my metal filter housing in from Japan and changed the oil today. Used my new Motiv filter tool, and it worked great! But, I did use Mobil 1 in 5w-20, which is a tiny bit higher viscosity, but in the summer, it makes me feel better. Fun Fact: 4Runners sold in Puerto Rico use 10w-30.

Your video about the TRD skid plate saved me time and problems as I could not figure out why the brand new TRD bolt kit would only screw in about 1/4 way and then get very tight. After seeing your video, I tapped the threads and no problem! FYI when tapping all 4 holes metal was being cut which tells me the threads are not cut all the way through for 10 x 1.25 bolt. Thank you.
