In 1908, a powerful explosion occurred over Siberia, flattening 80 million trees across scores of miles. Known as the Tunguska Event, it’s the only well-documented instance of a large meteorite or cosmic object impacting Earth in recorded history. This unprecedented force demonstrated the potential devastation of celestial collisions.

When I was a boy in the 1950's I loved reading Azimov.
His stories were amazing and wonderful and took me to faraway and wonderful places!❤

Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy is a wonderful testament to early 1950s science fiction. Here is coined the term "hyper-space.” Read all three volumes as a young teenager and got me hooked on the genre. A recommended read! 👍

"People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do." -Isaac Asimov

I use that quote all the time. It is def in my top 10.

I read that the meteor didnt hit the ground but rather it blew up due to reentry stress and the large shock wave from the explosion is what knocked the trees down.

Isaac Asimov is one of my favorite SF writers. I read some great stories that took me from this world and plunked me down in some spectacular location and 'reality'.

I heard that Tesla after hearing about Tunguska said: “oops”! Something to do with that tower of his and some local villagers in Russia said that there was some kind of electrical storm….

The most terrifying part, to me anyway, is that whatever took place at Tunguska it never made contact with earth. All that devastating force happened in the air.
Mind blown.

When I was a kid my dad took me prospecting with a metal detector, I was 7. He dug down after a strong signal about 4ft and found a basketball sized round chunk, it was covered in a molten rough surface as though it had been thru tremendous heat. Apparently dad didn’t know what it was so he reburied it…years later I figured it out, meteor.

I watched a good documentary on this event which happened about 1905. In a very remote part of Siberia, it is quite interesting .

It's a miracle that this event took place in an isolated area.
Sad about the trees, and I'm sure people also perished
