Down To You is the 4th track released off of Marianas Trench’s new album, Haven. This 4th song was written to represent the 4th plot point in Joseph’s Campbell’s book “The Hero’s Journey” - a scholarly tome that breaks down and defines the arc of virtually every quest narrative in existence. This 4th plot point is “Meet The Mentor” which represents needing support, help and advice from a trusted person in your life to gain strength and confidence to challenge yourself and pursue your goal.

I'm seeing lots of (well-intentioned, but) misinformed discussion in these comments about generative AI (genAI)/AI art, so as a semi-professional visual artist who's looked into this specific video a bit, here's what's ACTUALLY gone down (to the best of my knowledge!):
*TL;DR: The images are not AI generated, they are still frames that were chosen from past music videos, which have had a comic book-esque filter applied to them. Many programs that provide these filters have started forcefully integrating genAI into their filters, and they don't give users any way of opting out of this. So the people behind this MV had essentially no control over the use of AI in their tools! It was most likely used without any malicious intent- so instead of being upset at the band and their team, direct that frustration to the programs who are forcing people into this position.*

What most likely happened here is that the program that was used to apply the filter (most likely Photoshop or something similar) has incorporated AI into their filter tools. Filters like this have existed for decades without the use of genAI, but recently, many major companies and programs have been forcefully integrating genAI into their tools, and not giving users a way to opt out. There are plenty of articles discussing this, and even Adobe/Photoshop themself have been discussing it very loudly and very frequently for the last few months. *Basically what this means is that when the humans behind this video clicked the button to add the filter, the program they were using automatically used genAI instead of/alongside the filter.* The humans behind this video have zero control over what the companies behind their programs have implemented into their tools, and most likely were not aware, or were not able to opt out/use a different program without genAI.

All this to say that, with time crunches and other limitations likely also being present (budget, small team, etc.), *it is incredibly likely the team behind this MV had zero malicious intent behind the use of genAI. What most likely happened is that they were unaware of the use of genAI, or unable to work with tools that didn't use genAI.* But there are still human creatives who still put a lot of care and work into this video, and were compensated for it! The band themselves (Josh, Mike, Matt, Ian) are not the ones responsible for making this video, so directing any frustration you have at them is unproductive. The band's team(s) and other creatives at 604 Records are the ones who made it, and they did a great job! It's just unfortunate that the tools they used forced genAI into the project.

If you are frustrated/upset/etc. with the use of genAI in this MV, please don't direct those feelings towards the band and/or their team. To do so would be unfair, and wouldn't lead to any real benefit or change, since it was out of their hands. If you feel strongly about the use of genAI art, I want to ask that you please direct that frustration towards the major companies and corporations who are forcing human creatives to use genAI, and refusing to hire human artists in place of genAI. That's where change needs to be seen, and that is the root of this problem. *The major companies who force genAI into their programs without letting users opt out are the reason why this video has genAI in it.*

I left a similar comment to this earlier but it's since disappeared, so I hope this one sticks around. I'm not here to debate the ethics/etc. of genAI rn, because I think that's too big a discussion to have in a YouTube comment section. I'm only making this comment to try and keep people informed and stop the (likely well-intentioned) spread of misinformation, especially since that misinformation has caused negative pushback towards the band and their team(s). I only want to use the knowledge I have to help people understand what happened with this video, so they know how to move forward with the feelings they might have about it. Thanks! :D
