Dither - Everything you need to know! - Mastering Explained

If I may intercede. Leaving dither on might give the listener more options to use his personal EQ skills to change your music while listening, potentially even while driving. In other words, it's for the listener's convenience?

My methord for dither is very different from most engineers out there:
Given that dither is noise, even though the noise itself is very low in volume, the tone change it makes to the sound can be heard. Because of this I preffer to use a dither plugin on the mixbus/master channel all the time (activated) and render throught it, while also making sure that all the options from the DAW for dither and noise shaping are deactivated.
This way I can be sure that the mix/master after exported will be exactly the same as I hear it inside the DAW.

I have a friend thsat only Dithers his tracks, and sends them to Spotify, etc. He never masters them, because he says the streaming platforms with adjust the volume for the website. Sounds crazy to me. What do you think?

If your session is 24-bit 96kHz and you intend the final mix to be 24-bit 96kHz, and also the Playback medium is 24-bit 96kHz,
Should you enable Dither to help other converters Playback the track with no Quantization errors? or will other converters be able to Playback with quantization errors without Dither?

I heard of your bouncing stems for first mix down you bounce them with dither off then when u bounce for finished track u turn it on .. is there any truth to that?

In hybrid mixing/Mastering Is it best to put a dither plugin with 24bit on the way out from daw to analog hardware if the project is in 32 or 64bit ?. Best/Mathias

Maybe i got this wrong but im seeing ur explaination as a contradiction use dither anytime your exporting its ok to use dither but then you said most daw or ableton 32 bit 64 bit and at the end use dither when exporting 24 60 bit am i missing something here

Interesting. This is not exactly what I learned, nor practice. Are you 100% sure that dither should be applied when I render 24 bit files as 24 bit files, just because 32 bit is the computer's native audio resolution? I mean it's not like the 32 bits show in the bitmeter in, say, WaveLab. I do dither when I need 16 bit for CD or video.

Their is nothing simple about dither unless you don't know what you are talking about. When it might be used is a totally different subject...
