This video discusses the question:

"A recent honest question from a teen who grew up Catholic:
'When I was 7, the {Catholic} church considered me as able to understand how God wants me to live (7 is what they call the age of reason, I believe). I was given the impression that if I told a lie or did something wrong, I would go to hell. How can God be this way toward people, let alone a 7-year-old?'
This question was asked with a lot of apparent cynicism toward Christianity. Obviously, it says something about the misnomer of defining the age of accountability at 7. Bu to me, I take away this question for me: In teaching the idea of accountability to children, how do we train children to be morally responsible for their actions (that will be sinful one day) without giving them a false understanding of God being wrathful toward the innocent, naive, and less mature."
