Curt Vernon - ONE I THOUGHT YOU COULDN'T CHANGE (Good Roads) Official Music

I'll never forget hearing the Lord ask me to get out my guitar so that I could write a prophetic song about my grandfather's salvation. It was a moment much like Sarah had when God told her and Abraham that He was going to give them a child and she responded with laughter. God proceeded to keep His promise and named the child for her - Isaac, which means laughter. I wrote this song when my grandfather was 75 and four years later I watched his hard heart grow increasingly soft.
Everyone who walks with Jesus will have a thousand reminders of His willingness and enthusiasm to answer prayer, and this song is a testimony to the fact that I will find myself eternally incapable of bringing a request that intimidates Him. He is grander than our estimations. One of the last things I got to do with my grandfather was have him serve me communion.
The first time I performed this song in its entirety was in Louisville, KY, and when I got off stage I had a text waiting for me that there had been an emergency and my grandfather had been rushed to the hospital. He never made it back home after that. He had met Jesus later in life at a time and season that made it impossible for him to get out and share his story, but through this song God has allowed me to help my grandfather become an evangelist even after his death. This song is his testimony and a downpayment on the impossible prayers the Lord wants to answer for you.
Will was bitter at a world he said had let him down
Little thanks for the years with the coal in the underground
He said the government extracted every joy that he ever found
Hope was not a liberty his soul allowed
But at seventy-five he had to realize
That his hardened heart was heavy to bear
And he stood face to face with grace
Then, Lord, You changed the one I thought You couldn't change
Saul had waited all his life for Messiah's hope
The hope He'd come with the sword and He'd take down Rome
So when that wild Galilean came and claimed He was God
Only God Himself could change his heart
Then a light so bright that it left him blind
Knocked him down on Damascus road
He stood face to face with grace
Then, Lord, You changed the one he thought You couldn't change
There's one heart I know more than all the rest
Of the billions of rebels of righteousness
Well, it's cold, and it strays and it fails to love
Thanks be to God, grace is enough
A thousand times I've run
A thousand more returned
Every time You come, cause You loved me first
And because You died upon that cross
There's no such thing as too far gone
Because You died upon that cross
There's no such thing as too far gone
I don't know if this here is my greatest fear
But I know that it ought to be
That I'd live a life that don't lift You high
And waste my life living for me
I don't know if this here is my greatest joy
But I know that it ought to be
That the breath that birthed the universe
Is now breathing life on me
You call me out to the deepest places
You call me out to the great unknown
You make all things possible
And Your Spirit dares me to go
Go wherever the wind may blow
Go where the saints have gone before
Go with the power that can raise the dead
And believe that grave stones still roll
I don't know if this here is my greatest fear
But I know that it ought to be
That I'd live a life that don't lift You high
And waste my life living for me
I don't know if this here is my greatest joy
But I know that it ought to be
That same breath that birthed the universe
Is now breathing life on me
I don't know if this here is my greatest joy
But I know that it ought to be
That same breath that birthed the universe
Is now breathing life on me
