CLIP DESCRIPTION:
In his underwater cage, Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) struggles to fend off the shark.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel, Steven Spielberg's 1975 shark saga set the standard for the New Hollywood popcorn blockbuster while frightening millions of moviegoers out of the water. One early summer night on fictional Atlantic resort Amity Island, Chrissie decides to take a moonlight skinny dip while her friends party on the beach. Yanked suddenly below the ocean surface, she never returns. When pieces of her wash ashore, Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) suspects the worst, but Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton), mindful of the lucrative tourist trade and the approaching July 4th holiday, refuses to put the island on a business-killing shark alert. After the shark dines on a few more victims, the Mayor orders the local fishermen to catch the culprit. Satisfied with the shark they find, the greedy Mayor reopens the beaches, despite the warning from visiting ichthyologist Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) that the attacks were probably caused by a far more formidable Great White. One more fatality later, Brody and Hooper join forces with flinty old salt Quint (Robert Shaw), the only local fisherman willing to take on a Great White--especially since the price is right. The three ride off on Quint's boat "The Orca," soon coming face to teeth with the enemy.

Im glad they rewrote the character Hooper. In the novel he is a jackass who slept with Brody's wife and gets eaten by the shark leaving behind a legacy of an asshole. In the movie he is a more funny loveable character who audiences didnt want to die and im glad he didn't.

I love how the music fades away as the shark swims off.

This is by far, my favorite scene from the film. Just seeing the shark seeming to morph out of the shadows. And the way the crescendo of the music rises as it glides past the cage. And Hooper just is frozen solid. Sends chills down my spine every time.

The look in Hoopers eyes combined with the high pitch but muddled screams are brilliant!

So hard to believe this was done practically ( no CGI). One of the best films ever made for sure.

Jaws: “Oh dear! This poor man is trapped inside this metal contraption. Hold on my friend, I’ll get you out!!”

The soundtrack of this movie is iconic, memorable, thank you John Williams

Any shots of a real great white in this film dont scare me anywhere near as much as the animatronic "Bruce" shark does. It just has such a freaky menacing bulky look to it still gives me chills.

That shark looks quite real. Considering its 1975 (although probably made in 1974) quite amazing.

The real shark at 1:24 must've been like "ooh a camera! Hello!"

From 0.19 to 0.54, this is a masterpiece of editing. And the music ❤️John Williams was fully deserving of his Oscar.

Steven Spielberg was indeed much ahead of his time with movies like Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Jurassic Park, Hook, Saving Private Ryan....the the list is endless...Guess Jaws was not only a cult movie of its time but in the history of movies ever made..Only a director of that class can make a movie like Jaws not showing the shark almost half way through the movie yet it gave almost all the audience a chill running down our spine...Sir....it was a treat to have been an audience for your movies and a blessing to have been able to view your movies this life...Love from India....

Brilliant use of animatronics combined with real shark footage. Makes the scene more memorable and the shark seem more alive and terrifying because of it.

I love how more string instruments are added to add up the tension

"That shark will rip that cage to pieces."
"You got any better suggestions?"
"Yeah, I say we paddle this thing to shore and get a bigger boat!"
"Brody, I swear, if you say bigger boat one more time Quint and I are gonna throw you overboard!"
Brody wordlessly procedes to help construct the cage.

I like how in this scene they used real shark footage where it was needed! Great job on Spielbergs attention to detail!

This scene scared me the most as a kid. With the sense of Claustrophobia, defenselessness, horrifying music, and a colossal shark trying to break in, the cage sequence is the most pulse-pounding scene in the film. Steven Spielberg and John Williams are geniuses.
