Naked Bible Podcast 198 — Hebrews 12

Hebrews 12 follows on the heels of the “hall of faith” in Hebrews 11. That’s important because heeding that context (and that of the rest of the book of Hebrews) will prevent us from taking certain things in Hebrews 12 out of context. The writer doesn’t follow the “hall of faith” with a treatise on how moral imperfection (sin) will result in keeping someone out of the kingdom of God. And yet many readers lapse into that thinking in this chapter. In this episode we read Hebrews 12 in light of Hebrews 11—and other preceding passages in the book—to reaffirm that salvation is about something done for us, not something we do, and about the obedience of Jesus, not our own obedience.

I converted to Christ back in 2005 and in times of confusion and doubts I listen to this podcast and Hebrew 11 podcast and my faith gets strengthened. God bless you Dr Heiser.

I'm wondering if God will once more give us another teacher leader like Dr. Heiser... I hope he does again.

It is such a mind blower that for 40 years they were a stone's throw from the glory and power of God but still they screwed up so badly. I'm sure I would not have done any better

I have to comment about what holiness is shared with GOD. Contentious and divisive people don't go to heaven. GOD tends to be mellow and likes to share. "Be Holy, because I am Holy." GOD says. A sense of belonging comes with this attitude. B E L O N G I N G, and not an earned place. We obey because of our faith. We belong because of our humility and proper attitude.
For those of us that feel that belonging, and humility, will stand on the mountain, and fear nothing. Moses was the most humble man to have ever, and there will likely never be another like him, but for those of us that beat the league minimum, we will not fear. Let it thunder. Let it trumpet. Let there be fire. As loud and brutal as a Rammstein concert.
Let the almighty rock that mountain, and the angels with him. I think that it would be awesome to have four Ophanim going ahead with all four voices, and their wings keeping time with the thunder. I have high hopes for those days to come.
Furthermore, isn't the "Firstfruits" the Sunday after the Feast of Trumpets? The day after, right? Is that correct? The Feast of Trumpets is the day commemorating the day that the Israelites were being given instructions at the mountain, but could not handle GOD's voice? Some of us still represent, when passing on GOD's words.
