I’m shocked that the shorts time doesn’t count towards the watch time. If a channel uses both, they should count as collective data.

The 10M views requirement is crazy no matter how you put it but I still think the best way for a new creator to start is through shorts which in my experience, is the best way to get people to discover your channel and subscribe however, if you are looking to switch to long form content(which is my goal), it's not going to be easy to get those subs from shorts to watch your long form videos but, it will still be better than having no one to watch your videos.

Some People think that you have to get 10 million views by January 1st but that's not the case. You can get 10, 000, 000 views in any 90 day period and get monitized. You've got this you guys and never give up on your YouTube journey!

The big thing is that it takes time to succeed. 10 million views in 90 days doesn't mean they are only counting the shorts made in that 90 day period. If you've been making shorts already and keep making shorts going forward, those shorts will also be getting views in any given 90 day period. Starting from zero and expecting monetization in the first 90 days is unrealistic with either approach. A goal of 1 year is more realistic.

Since the news of the monetization for YouTube came out I didn't hesitate to start with shorts, in less than a week I went from a few shorts to 2000/4000 views to 100k views in the first hour of publication.

So I know that positive mindset is really important when it comes to things like this but as someone who gets around 75% of my views from shorts in the last 365 days with a pretty okay number of subscribers to take my word on this, this thing is absolutely unreal. I think my record is around 1 or 2 million in the last 90 days. 100k subscribers in a year is more possible than this bullshit and I'm not exaggerrating.

That black and white ending, that’s me on nearly every video. 10 to 20 takes choosing words, flopping on them and stumbling over them, to finally get that one perfect take that makes it to the final version lol. Very informative video! Good stuff!

10M views is not realistic for 99.999% of us but shorts videos do give you additional exposure, help draw in additional subscribers that may not have known you existed and helps keep your channel relevant because you are posting more often. Shorts are easier to make than a 10-20 minute video so it's a great opportunity to expand your channel.

For small creators just keep grinding. I was in your position and then I got a shorts video that got 10 mil views. Now I have 4-5 shorts vids getting 2k views every hour and it's amazing ⚔️. Be consistent and don't give up 😎💪

I am still happy they did not replace the 1000 subs and 4000 public watch hours with absurd boundaries like 10M views in 90 days. I am glad they just added that.

Yeah it's like infinitely easier to get 1k subs and 4k watch time hours than 10M shorts views. This wasn't made for small creators. This was made to give money to the big timers. In my niche I don't even know if the top five creators can get 10M views on any form of content in 90 days.

The way I understand it, there won’t be an individual CPM per channel on the short ad payments. It’s just ONE GIANT SHORTS AD BUCKET. Then 45% of that is allocated to creators. And you and I get paid out of that based on how many views we have on shorts. Super simple. Make more shorts (or get more shorts views) and you get a bigger slice of that pie, but there’s only one giant pie for the entire world worth of shorts creators. Same “CPM” as everyone else on shorts, since ads are run in the shorts player in between videos and not attached to any particular video like they are on long form videos. I think it’ll be great. We’ll see though :) only downside I can see to that lump system is no targeted ads, so maybe less effective for advertisers, and maybe less pay because of it. Or maybe it’s so competitive for ad space that they pay a lot for that space (like a super bowl commercial). We’ll see how that part plays out too!

I believe it is much easier to reach the monetization requirements for Long-form videos than reach those for YouTube Shorts. I am staying with long form videos for now.

I can confirm that it's possible because 2 of my videos went viral and gained total 10 million views in 14 days, BUT i don't even know if i'll still be gaining views in 2023 because shorts algorithm is unpredictable, I'm hoping that youtube will lower the requirements for shorts to even get more creators into the YPP!
