For nearly four decades, Bob Barker served as the host of the iconic game show The Price Is Right. Bob had gotten a degree in economics before transitioning into radio work, and it was during his tenure hosting the radio series The Bob Barker Show that his voice caught the attention of game show producers.

While hosting The Bob Barker Show, Bob was swept up by the producers of the series Truth or Consequences to become its new host, as its previous host had recently left. Bob took the job, and he ended up serving as the host of that game show for nearly two decades. It was during Bob’s latter years as the host of Truth or Consequences that he was hired to consecutively host a new and revamped version of The Price Is Right, which had initially premiered in 1956.
Bob was hesitant to host The Price Is Right, but CBS insisted. CBS’ insistence paid off, as Bob Barker would become an integral part of that show over the ensuing decades. Bob began hosting The Price Is Right in 1972, and stayed on as the program’s host until 2007. He abandoned Truth or Consequences in 1975, after which point he became most memorably known as the host of The Price Is Right. Over the four decades that he served as the latter game show’s host, the audience got to watch Bob grow old.
