The sneaker resale market has grown exponentially in the last few years but with that growth a cut-throat business has emerged. Sneaker resale attracts vultures, hypebeasts, and those looking to profit from even the worst scenarios. This ultimately has changed the way we shop for sneakers and many are simply quitting sneaker collection all together.

In this episode Reggie outlines how sneaker resale may have changed the sneaker community forever.

Resale is killing the community. What do you think can be done to make it better OR is this the point of no return?

Just release the sneakers in way people can get them. Kanye might be crazy but at least he had the right idea in making enough 350 v2s where resellers can't get rid of them because you just easily get them for retail in a lot of color ways.

Resellers always dress trash. Wearing a medium hoodie when they definitely need a large

very dissapointed with the strangelove dunks was hoping to have a dope shoe to skate with but instead it's just gonna be collecting dust in somebodies room waiting to sell it to someone who will do the same.

if people stop paying for resell and realized that paying double the retail is not the move then people will keep reselling

here's an idea to build off of: since there are so many kobe fans in the world (as evidenced by the outpouring of love and support, not to mention the resale game effing up his shoes and memorabilia) how about nike make his shoes mass produced general releases? Like 5 million of them. Then, nike will definitely sell those at retail price, everyone can get them, and resellers will stop buying them to resell. Kobes for everyone

100% agree, as I found out the hard way working in a sneaker store, most of the management would horde and resell the biggest releases then turn around and claim sneakerhead status while wearing the same GR sneakers everyday b/c they flipped their collections. There's money to be made here no doubt about that, but when the only reason you're into sneakers is to turn a profit, you're not a sneakerhead imo. I don't think any of us who are actually into this stuff are going to be jumping ship any time soon, I do think that we'll just be spending less while we wait for this trend to pass. It's a shame too b/c this garbage has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Or we can go back to the days of wolves in streets and robbing these little kids with their parents credit cards that walk out the store with four bags of the new release.

It's not the resellers, it's the companies like Nike to be blamed. Why release only 23000 sneakers worldwide ??? Don't you know what will happen ? Make it a GR (release) and see the prices of resale drop to almost retail.
Take a leaf from what yeezy has done, the Yeezy resale is dead.

The resale market started out of laziness. As soon as people started waiting outside of Supreme and Jordan releases offering up an extra $100 to the guy walking out, who'd spent hours waiting in line, everything snowballed from there. People realized they could buy several pairs and sizes and sell to the lazy ass that didn't want to stand in line. It got outta hand, and its a seller's market. They didn't start the problem though. The buyer started the problem by giving all the power to the seller. When demand outweighs supply, prices are always gonna rise. Simple economics.

Restock seems to be a good way to cut resell while maintaining the hype. Cutting the assets of those resellers by half, giving everyone a second chance without eliminating the hype completely.
Adidas is a little bit better than Nike from this perspective...

Man, i would love to watch a segment in which you speak Japanese the whole time with subs running at the bottom. That would be hella fascinating. :) Also... love your stuff.

Used to wear a whole range of sneakers in the 2000s... 2012 I lost interest, saw the signs and decided not to play this expensive game. End of the day, its a choice! I chose not to care anymore, i just watch from the comfort of YouTube.

I started buying kicks in the early 2010’s when I was still in high school, so it’s lowkey kinda odd seeing how normalized it is now to pay resale. Back then I remember it was almost a sin if you were in the forums and mentioned you were gonna buy shoes from FlightClub. Now you got apps like Goat and Stock X where even the most casual of folks can open the app and see what’s hot currently and with a couple of taps they now own the hottest sneaker of the week lol.

I have 2 ideas that would never happen.

1. Early interest pre-order system. A colorway leaks online and Nike opens a pre-order months before release and you can order the shoe and they bill you when they ship. Example, I want one of the Space Hippie shoes, I'd pay right now for them so they could produce it and send it to me when it's done. No release day L
2. Nike place all Jordans on the Nike by You page. You want Fragment 1 it....pay make it and they send it to you when it's done.

I'm the old sneakerhead who's done with it all. I try to keep up, but when I see someone with 20 OW 5s it's over.

been buying J's since 1990. Really got into retros in the early 2000's. my collection peaked about five years ago with 100 pairs. then after all the resellers and saturation and prices I decided to sell them all. moving on.

Number one reason I haven't been buying sneakers. Bots and resellers. These companies might as well sell the sneakers to them and take a percentage out of the resellers.
