Kinda accurate to history- Catherine the Greats mom was terrible. She neglected her due to her being a girl and favored her sickly little brother. Then when he died, she was determined to see her married to someone powerful. She would constantly berate and verbally and emotionally abu*e Catherine until she was married. And then at the betrothal dinner, she threw a fit that she wosen’t seated at the head table (to which Elizabeth of Russia, Catherine’s aunt in law) seated her in a room, all by herself. And Joanna (Catherine’s mother) was also spying for the Prussian king, almost causing Catherine to be banished and the betrothal called off. Catherine, at just 14, was the one who had to smith things over with her.
Basically, her mother was a narcissist who saw her daughter as a way to get attention for herself.
