Correction: 6:35 The Miyoo Mini V4 does indeed have a rumble feature! I don't know why I was under the impression it didn't, but as I was tidying up and shutting down all the handhelds after posting the video, I noticed it buzzed as I switched off. Sure enough, some testing confirms the vibration feature works just great, making it an even better proposition for such a tiny machine!

Top 3 for me of this year are: Trimui Brick, Retroid Pocket 5, and RG35XX SP.

Love this list! I would say that if you don't have a Chromatic yet, I would definitely pick one up. I have so many damn handhelds and that one really stands out for me right now in so many ways. Makes me want to find time to play games more often just so I can use it.

The Miyoo Mini will always hold a place in my heart! I surprisingly haven't picked anything up yet in a while as nothing is standing out to me. The RP5 for its price range is the best one out recently imo

For me nothing beats the Miyoo Mini +. I hope they make a new version with a small upgrade, a slightly better chip so all PS1 games work perfectly.

Great video Joe! My pick over the TrimUI Pro would be the RG40XX H. Took a bit of leap on it with everything else out there and was pleasantly surprised. The 4 inch, 4:3 category is severely underserved and for me is the perfect sweet spot for everything up to PS1 and N64 which the 40XXH on MuOS handles splendidly. Be well!

Cracking reviews. My go to is RG35XX SP but I’d love the Trimui Brick. Maybe it’s time save up for one. However do love my Funnyplaying FPGBC which I use it with my Gameboy cameras. It’s a brilliant platform and such fun to build. Thanks for the brilliant content, you've been a real inspiration.

The FPGBC is my favorite this year - ended up getting 3 - one for my husband and one for me but the battery was DOA on one so they sent me a new board and battery so I ended up buying the parts to build another...lol - just couldn't have the extra board around and do nothing with it. I still want the RP5 though and think it might be the best retro handheld of the last few years - I would use for GBA, Gamecube and PS2 games.

Try the Modretro Chromatic because it’s amazing.

I absolutely love the PowKiddy V10, PowKiddy RGB20SX, TrimUI Brick and GB Colour. I currently have those 4 in my collection! I had the Miyoo Mini and ANBERNIC RG35XXSP, great handhelds that I gave away simply because I like the other ones more.

Very informative Joe - thank you. Still pretty much an OG Game Boy player but have built several arcade emulators using Raspberry Pi and Mac Mini. Yet to take the plunge to put an emulator in my pocket. Lots to consider from watching this… 🤔

Love my TSP used it more than previous retro handhelds I've purchased. Currently have the X28 and RGB30 (also have a DS lite) but hardly touched them since getting the TSP only slight niggle I have is the ABXY buttons are a little small (still perfectly usable though) and I'd have loved a bit better performance running PSP games, but you can't have everything at the price the TSP come in at!
Also love that I can play PC ports (using Portmaster) like Doom 3, Mini Doom 2, Stardew Valley (not got this to work Yet! due to the game being updated so waiting for a Portmaster update) and many more.
Want to get a Brick - not sure I need one (trying to convince myself) but can't afford one for a few months anyway!

The Miyoo Mini is the GOAT kid. For this year, the RG 35XX SP is my pick young lad.

Great vid Joe! Man, I really need to pick up the TrimUI Brick, very sleek-looking handheld, and seems super premium for the price. Based on the reviews I've seen, it works well for all the systems I would want to play on it, and like you I don't have any worries about the heat for the same reasons.

Also sad to say I agree with all your thoughts on the alumin(i)um Pocket, I've tried so many things to fix the controls and it's still sub-par. In fact, the controls are really the only thing keeping me from really loving the device, and it's such a shame they failed so hard in that area. The build feels so premium and I love the display, but yea... that D-pad just ain't it!

You should try the standard Pocket as well. The metal shell doesn't add anything to the experience, imo, except for louder clicking buttons maybe and a larger gap in the wallet.
You could have saved money and buy the dock, instead. That little thing elevates the whole experience by a lot, imo.

One minor gripe I have with the TrimUI Brick, it doesn't run SegaCD Wheel Of Fortune. Though, it makes up for it in a way by running N64 Wheel Of Fortune.

The miyoo mini v4 does indeed have rumble.

I see that you are more or less focusing on the vertical aspect consoles.

Where do you think RG40xxV fall on this list? It feels similar to the trimui brick but more premium. Though Trimui looks to be smaller screen and more affortable.
