it's always fun to watch young people react to records I bought at the time of release and thought nothing of it, other than I wanted to listen to and enjoy the music. Among those mentioned are Electric Ladyland, Trout Mask Replica, Freak Out, Physical Graffiti, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, Blonde on Blonde, Exile on Main Street, London Calling, and The White Album. At the time I wasn't so much into The Who or Elton John. You've got excellent choices here. Very nice presentation.

Nice and interesting list you made ! the white album was my intro to the Beatles in 1996, as a 15 year old I didn’t understand that this was the Beatles. A bom ! Only now them from the hits. A massive Eye opener !! Happines is a warm gun, wow ! Piggies, honey pie yer blues, ….since then…music change my life ( or the Beatles did and opened the doors to others). In 1996 the anthology came, flaming pie… so much exiting to me ! But again, nice list !

Yeah Tommy had an impact on me too! I bought last year also Quadrophonia and it's also very good. The Beatles on 1, they deserve it! What a song, While my guitar gently weeps! Nice video! Best wishes for 2025! Greetings from Tienen, Belgium! Jason

Really good list here! I realized that double albums tend to be my favorite albums in most discographies (The Wall and Out of the Blue are my top 2 albums of all time)

Absolutely brilliant list. I love a double LP. Can’t disagree with most. We all have different ears of course.
Personally those first few Chicago albums would be on my list. So many genres on those albums 👍👍

I was 13 in November '68 when The Beatles (aka 'White Album') came out, and one evening a local radio station played the entire (and still not in the shops) album from start to finish (a whole side at a time without commercial interruptions). I sat mesmerized through the whole thing while the rest of my family watched television in another room. This is probably my favourite album of all time (well, in the top 5-10 anyway). Sure it's a bit of a sprawling mess, with an almost random track sequence. But it's a pretty damned cool sprawling mess, and when I'm in the mood there's still nothing quite like it. Cheers...

I have perfectly clear the best studio double LP ever for my taste: The Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago's debut album. And for one clear reason: it's pretty common and normal that a double LP has its fair share of filler due to the amount of material needed to fill four LP sides. But to me, CTA is the only studio double LP with zero filler. Well, it has "Free Form Guitar", which certainly disrupts the flow of the album and clearly isn't for the average listener. But it's an enjoyable track if you appreciate and understand Hendrix's expressionist style, which is what Terry Kath intended to give a nod to. Anyway, it's the only thing that could be considered a flaw on a perfect album of such length. No other comes close in that regard for me.

You are correct that the White Album is the top double album. You left a lot out like The Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore, Donovan's Gift from a Flower to a Garden, The Incredible String Band's Wee Tam and the Big Huge and others. But thankfully you got the top one right.

Nice video, but should have included Sloan's 30 track 76 minute double album Never Hear the End of It, which has the tracks running into each other. Listen to the song Fading Into Obscurity.

Nice list, but albums from the CD era that were never thought of as double albums by their creators shouldn’t count as double albums just because someone decides to press them on two discs. Ok Computer and Elephant don’t have the sprawl to be double albums either.

The White Album is a great album, but it is extremely overrated. It has too many lows for me.

Here’s my top 10:

1. Exile on Main St.
2. Songs on the Key of Life
3. Disintegration
4. Blonde on Blonde
5. London Calling
6. Daydream Nation
7. Electric Ladyland
8. Physical Graffiti
9. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
10. Superunknown

Tusk doesn't belong here, it's not a great album. But, I know these are your opinions. Now on a technicality, White Stripes Elephant is NOT a double album. it is only 49 mins and change, and when it was first released only came on 1 LP, so that doesn't belong here at all. I would replace the WS (only because it isn't a double) with PF the Wall.

Good choices but ok computer isnt a double...ok computer was released during the cd era. when the band was making it and designing the packaging it was for cd not vinyl. the length of the album was for one cd as vinyl had pretty much died out by 1997. Sorry that sounds really pedantic!
