Humorous take (and possible spoiler):

The reason he skipped two years was because it took him 3 years to figure out how to do it *without* a stooge in the audience.

The Krufts Dog Show comment reminds me of a telecast of the Westminster Kennel Club. An official from the dog show was being interviewed and said that the show "Was like a Miss America competion for dogs." As she was saying this, a dog took a poo right behind them. The interviewer commented "You almost never see a Miss America contestant do that."

Tom not saying "The Lateral Book is out now" in the end card somehow caught me off guard lmao

Tom and Dan's silence after the revelation that Dan is a stooge was very telling 🤔

Andrew: "Here's a hint that provides half the answer."
Also Andrew: "You got that so fast, I'm knackered!"

I knew the name Lennart was ringing a bell.
*spoiler below*

One of my favorite TED talk is a video of Lennart Green. It's on YouTube titled "Close-up card magic with a twist | Lennart Green".
That video lives in my mind for two reasons. First, the trick is amazing and Lennart is incredibly talented. Second, the girl from the audience that participates is Zoe Anderson, daughter of TED Curator Chris Anderson. Sadly, she died at the age of 24 on December 28, 2010. Chris posted a beautiful tribute about her life, at the time.

I love how Tom is like "wait did he just stumble onto the right answer, " only for it to be a false alarm, yet to actually happen later in the episode. 😂

What's wild is I guessed it was a magic show thing immediately once I heard/read the question. I have watched A LOT of penn and teller fool us clips here on YouTube so for some reason this just stood out.

I met Lennart Green at a magic convention. I think it was 2002. As I heard the story then: Because Lennart was self-taught, many of his techniques were original inventions, unknown to other magicians. The judges concluded that the only way he could have done some of the tricks was to use a marked deck, and thus he was disqualified. When he competed again, he did the same routine but ended it by dropping the deck on the judges' table and challenging them to prove that it was a marked deck.

Lennart Green is one of my favorite magicians, so I knew this one as soon as I saw his name.
I've even got a tabletop RPG NPC named Lennart after him.

Potential spoiler (I haven't watched the full video yet):

Lennart is such an uncommon name that as soon as one of them mentioned magic I became so confident that it's Lennart Green (a magician who also invented a lot of his own tricks) that I'm going to lock in that guess before watching the second half of the video. I feel like it had to be at FISM, too, although I'm not as familiar with the older winners as I am recent years.

Side note: It's well worth watching Markobi's FISM performance if you have even a "sleight" interest in magic. :)

I guessed it right straight away!! What's my prize?

For some reason my thoughts went straight towards a magician, maybe he perfomed a magic trick involving a random person from the audience but the judges thought he was 'cheating' by planting the person, so he did the same trick but with a judge so they knew that it wasn't faked.

I love Lateral, but this is the first time I've commented on a video on this channel.

My incorrect guess was that it was a disabled person playing a board game (like chess-but could be a different game), and was needing to have someone else move the pieces. Disqualified the first if it seemed like the helper could have been giving signals somehow. Again, I have since watched the full video and know that my guess was wrong, but I still thought it might be interesting enough to others to be worth sharing here.

When I heard the name, my first thought was the only Lennart I know is Lennart Green! Wow! Seriously.

Yep as an amateur magician I know this was Lennart Green at FISM, he was soo good the judges had to be there close up to believe he wasn't using stooges.
