The 9 realms. What are they? Planets? Galaxies? Solar Systems? Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Nine Realms under the rule of Asgard from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now before we begin, the 9 realms we are discussing today are the heavenly bodies within the MCU and For the purposes of this video we will not be discussing any aspects from comics. As with our other lore videos, it’s important to make this distinction because the MCU is not the main prime Marvel universe that comic readers know.

With that said, let’s answer the question we posed earlier right away. The nine realms are an association of 9 planetary bodies which are each under the quote unquote jurisdiction of asgard, some of them involuntarily. These 9 locations are Asgard, Midgard, Alfheim, Muspelheim, Jotunheim, Nidavellir, Nilfheim, Svartalfheim, and Vanaheim.

My favorite realm is Thanosheim. It's perfectly balanced, as all realms should be.

Thor 1 : an Empire
Thor 2 : a City
Thor 3 : a Village
Avangers 3 : Dusted
Avengers 4 : a Village (again)

Asgard – Realm of the Aesir, joined to Midgard by the rainbow bridge Bifrost
Alfheim – Realm of the Elves
Hel – Realm of those who died of illness or old age and then of most people
Jotunheim – Realm of the Giants and Frost Giants
Midgard – Realm of the Humans between Asgard and Jotunheim
Muspelheim – Realm of Fire, the fire-giant Surtr, and Surtr’s forces of chaos
Nidavellir/Svartalfheim – Realm of the Dwarves beneath the earth
Niflheim – Realm of Ice, Snow, and Mist near Muspelheim
Vanaheim – Realm of the Vanir

Asgard is like the British empire, they conquered entire civilizations with violence and many years later they became the “peaceful” protector of their colonies known as “independent allies”

If directed and written properly, marvel can make a series about the history of 9 realms which could be the next games of thrones but with best endings(if the writing is good)....similarly, the first 2 thor movies could have been made perfectly awsome if the directions were much better because the history of asgard is worth enough for that.

I love how Alfheim's image is just Doctor Strange shrugging. It is strange (no pun intended) that after 10 years of Thor being in the MCU, neither the realm nor the light elves have made any single appearance yet.
