I can't believe I'm saying this but I disagree with you nigel on this one. HGV drivers already suffer from fatigue because of driving 8-9 (now 10) hours a day, with few breaks in-between. Getting rid of the CPC will be a good first step.

Lower the standard of the HGV driving test, increase permissible driving hours, the man is an idiot, what next, do away with MOTs and reduce the driving age to 12? Make no mistake about it, brexit is already leading to lower standards and at some point that will apply to the food we eat because we now have very little leverage in negotiations and have to bow down to the larger economies, e.g. allowing Australia not to be bound by climate change rules so that we could secure a second rate trade agreement with them.

HGV drivers can work 15 hours a day three times a week and 13 hours for the other days (it get's more complicated). Don't you think that's long enough??
Jeez - there's a reason why drivers are leaving the industry and ridiculous shift lengths with poor remuneration is pretty high on the list of reasons to quit

So Farage is saying HGV drivers should work more than the 12 hour shifts they already do? Who in their right mind would sign up to be HGV driver if you had to do 15 or more hour shifts? It's literally dicing with death, and as someone who used to drive a lot for work and had his share of microsleep moments that could have ended badly, that's not hysteria. And don't think this would end here, if they slashed workers rights for HGV drivers then all other working class jobs would be next.

In the USA HGV drivers are paid $100, 000 plus a Golden Hello of $5, 000. Time for respect of a vital Profession ?

Not having people parked up for 4 hours+ at RDC’s waiting to be unloaded would be a start. Any HGV drivers on here could tell you they waste 1000’s of hours every year each just sitting waiting to be unloaded or loaded. That’s where the investment should have been spent over the last 10 years in better infrastructure.
