Vilified is a low-budget, independent feature film that tells the story of Hassan, a 17-year-old Pakistani Muslim American, and his mom, Feroza. After moving to a suburban town in Pennsylvania, Hassan and Feroza are faced with challenges in a hostile climate of racism and Islamophobia, particularly in high school and the workplace. As Hassan confronts these forces in school, he comes across other students of color who have similar struggles.

Vilified explores the complex intersections of race, gender, class, religion, and other aspects of social identity, and highlights on stories that are too often marginalized or excluded by mainstream media.

The film addresses both interpersonal and structural forms of oppression and their impact on Muslims and people of color. Written, produced, and directed by Jehanzeb Dar, and shot in the Philadelphia suburbs and surrounding areas, Vilified is an empowering story about friendship, solidarity, perseverance, and family.
