The lecture was held within the of the Hausdorff Trimester Program: Kinetic Theory

Abstract:
Basic equations in Kinetic Theory are the Boltzmann and Landau equations which are appropriate to describe rarefied gases and weakly interacting plasmas respectively. They are formally derived under suitable scaling limits. A rigorous proof of this limiting procedure is difficult and still largely open. We want to discuss some mathematical problems arising in this context.
