3 Ned Rig Tricks For Winter Fishing!

The Ned Rig is amazing in the Winter Time! Fishing in the cold can be tough, especially if you're second guessing your lure choice. With new brands piling onto the Ned Rig bandwagon every day, its hard to know which baits to focus on and how to dial them in for cold water fishing. In today's video Tim explains how to adjust your weight, how to choose the right ned bait, and when to fish these presentations.

On the surface, ned rig fishing is very simple. Grab a ned bait, grab a light jighead, throw it out and try not to move it. As the technique has morphed the last few years so has its ability to catch fish in a variety of conditions. Focusing in on details like the weight of the head, whether or not your bait floats, how much it moves underwater when you shake it, are all key pieces of the puzzle. While the Z Man Finesse TRD remains the gold standard, there are so many other amazing baits that will help you get bit in changing conditions.

Below you'll find links to a handful of Tim's favorite baits. He's included his top 2 colors for each bait, and even included a brand new Salamander ned bait that you should check out. He's also included his favorite heads and the gear he uses to fish them. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Thank you for the talk on cancer which might be your most import words. I was diagnosed with stage three Melanoma a year and half ago after a routine dermatologist appointment. After one year of chemo I am now cancer free. It cannot be stressed enough that early detection and treatment are critical. Thank you again. Last video Matt talked about goals for this year and one of mine is to meet both of you. Can you give a schedule of when you will be here in The California area. Also on the fishing topic you guys are costing me a lot of money, I have to quit watching the buyers guides. Seriously they are awesome keep up the great work.

Ned rig saved my butt yesterday. 4 hours without a bite and then tied on a Ned rig and caught 11 within 2 hours.

IDEA FOR NEW VIDEO YOU GUYS ACTUALLY HAVEN'T MADR BEFORE!!! READ THIS You guys should make an underwater video with drop shot, ned rig, jerkbaits and crankbaits with different line sizes and line types, such as straight floro or braid to floro leader or even braid to mono leader to show the way each line type and size effects each bait underwater. I have always been the guy who fishes heavier line then i probably should so I would absolutely love an underwater video showing the difference the line size can really make! Thanks guys keep up the amazing videos!

You can actually “swim” a trd as well by reeling and adding pops to the rod... does a PHENOMENAL job of imitating small baitfish or craws, bluegill, etc. I’ve caught a multitude of fish while fishing in the fall, when the won’t bite a small swimbait very well, it’s a great alternative!

Really good video for those who want to get further into just basic ned fishing as well as just start up. In my opinion the most versatile or just best weight to get ned rigs in are 1/10 or 1/8 ounce heads. Line weight I'd say six pound is fairly good I typically run six or eight on my spinning rods for neds. Lastly if like to say that if you have some weeds or just anything that your hook can get snagged on zman came out with a really good solution. Is is an ewg style hook on a shrooms Head with the line tie sunk into the head so that it conceals your line tie. One new bait that you should keep an eye on for ned rigs will be the zman baby goat it's a 3 inch grub with small claws that are similar to that of a rage craw and I believe that it will be a good bait for more active fisher. Colors that are grayish brown with a light colored underbelly have been the most productive color for me. Also sometimes rigging very small swimbaits on bed rigs can increase the amount of bites you will get.

I had not properly considered the impact of weight on the action of the various size baits. Thanks!

Excellent presentation. I’m guilty of using too heavy Ned heads and dropshot weights. New Year and a reason to correct and cast better presentations.
Thank you. I hope your health returns quickly.
