Lavender distillation is an amazing process! In this video, I take you through lavender distillation step by step. We start with a gorgeous view of some lavender fields in France. I just love the sweet purple truck the lavender was loaded into on its way to the distillery.

At 0:47 we've made it to the lavender distillery itself. At 1:38 you can see the end product of lavender distillation—essential oil. Check out the small amount of lavender essential oil yielded by all that plant material! At 2:29, I take you on a little journey to different kinds of lavender fields throughout France. Some are in quaint rows, others are allowed to grow wild, and others are pollinated by honeybees (lavender honey anyone?).

At 3:27 we see the spent lavender after distillation, and learn what happens to all that used up plant material. At 4:05, we visit the lab where the lavender oil undergoes GC/MS testing, and I explain the purpose behind that. To learn about lavender itself and its amazing healing properties, jump ahead to 5:00.

It's amazing how much lavender it takes to make such a small amount of essential oil. Really makes me prize the oil and realize how precious it is. Thanks for these images that really illustrate the process!

Love this! Thanks for sharing your experience and your beautiful photos. I purchased some Lavender from a farm in Niagara-On-the-Lake in Ontario and it is heavenly. :) I am taking your free intro course now!

Thank you for that! I just started your online course and I'm so hooked. I should be sleeping while my two babies and husband are asleep too but I'm simply so passionate about all of it! My mom has been working with EO for over 20 years, she's a physical therapist and traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in the Northeast of Brazil. She always inspired me and now that I found the Aromahead Institute I'm so glad and may somehow follow her steps!

Viewing this video is informative and visually appealing. Your voice is soothing like lavender. Although, you standing in the vat prompted memories of I Love Lucy😉

Andrea, love the authentic nature of your videos. Not sure if I can swing the Natural Living class just yet but definitely on my radar. I do have two kiddos under 4, what essential oils would you recommend for this cold/flu season? I currently have: orange, lemon, peppermint, tea tree, and lavender. Looking to add a few more safe & versatile oils to my collection, but am overwhelmed with all the different ones needed for recipes. Thoughts? Thank you! Also, I like jojoba oil as a carrier, good for babies?

I’m one of the ones that lavender doesn’t help at all. It’ll give me a migraine and make me ill. It is very beautiful though.

I'm interested in essential oils but after seeing this I'm a bit discouraged. I don't see a way that using essential oils couldn't harm the environment. Perhaps I'm missing something but I feel like if a company was selling essential oils even if it was on a small scale basis it seems like it would still be harmful. I could see maybe if you made it simply for yourself and made everything from scratch it could be fine. However I'm in no way an expert and could be completely wrong and I would like to know more.
