I am this person. 30 year career as a social worker, 62 years old with chronic health issues. Pension is $867 /month. Thankfully my home is paid for, because I would be homeless otherwise. I could not absorb even a $500 emergency. I have two grown daughters who help me with emergencies. And, I am clearly more fortunate than millions of others. We need Marianne in there somewhere, because she gets it.

"What great thing are you planning today?!" Yes, that's the question everyone who wants a meaningful life should be asking themselves! You were on fire there in Eugene, Marianne. I liked the way you framed your inspirational candidate's speech today. You express a living Vision - in a land where the people are perishing right and left. You noted the vocabulary we've cultivated for looking out for 'Number #1' - while we can only gesture idly when trying to express public values (which are foundational for private values). We've lost those "Habits Of The Heart" Robert Bellah and his friends spoke about in the '80s (citing Alexis de Tocqueville's DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA.) And, It only got worse. By the '90s, we were "Bowling Alone" in which Robert Putnam saw the collapse of American community. Now, we're in the treacherous territory W.B. Yeats warned of where - 'We have fed our hearts on fantasies; Our hearts have grown brutal from the fare" Trump is still ladling out that nonsense daily. So, you circled back to the world of the '70s for dramatic contrast to today. I would dial it back another decade to the '60s when President John F. Kennedy exhorted us to “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” We have to find that place in our hearts, again, which was unfortunately shot out from under us all by an assassin's bullet - or bullets. Faith inspires ✨️ to stand up for the little guy. i.e. the poor, marginalized, downtrodden etc. Children, elderly, disabled. Welfare programs for these vulnerable populations bolstered, expanded, improved 👏
