Our work stations may be cluttered, but we love it so. Added to that, we can lay our hands ✋️ on a tool at a moments notice. Most importantly we keep the Wife happy for this is our "play" area, for the rest of the home 🏡 is spotless. Mr. Volts ⚡️cluttered away!

Here in the UK we have stores that still sell DVD players. There's Curry's/PC World and they sell the SONY DVPSR760HB DVD Player for £39 ($70 CAD) in store. It's the only one they sell, the rest are Blue-Ray. I guess it won't be for much longer. The only other in store DVD without Blue-Ray I can find is at John Lewis department store but that is a combo unit: Panasonic
DMR-EX97EB DVD Player with 500GB HDD & Freeview+ HD Twin Recorder £299 ($538.08 CAD) Amazed people would pay that for technology that is now superseded by online streaming etc. But I guess some people want to stay with what's familiar to them or maybe they want to play their old DVDs as you mentioned.

Whats funny how I happen to have a Haier 19" CRT TV/DVD combo, and Trutech DVD player, it can play not just NTSC format, but it also can play PAL format on the DVD, and it was really unique the way it was done before FTC and FCC fined the company and recalls the DVD players for failure to meet federal standards such as Regional One. Never got rid of it, and it still works, although it has not been used for a while.

I can smell the nicotine on the DVD player through the video. Just brings back smell memory of gear I have repaired.

I have one of these. It is in a dry cellar. Been there for years. Never used it much, and thought the image quality was poor. It was very cheap. I wonder if it still works. If it plays music CDs I might use it for that.

Look forward to the Reel to Reel.. I'm surprised you don't wear gloves when cleaning the Nicotine off.

Another nice little dvd player.
Seems I have to disassemble and clean the "umpteenth" time my 1999 Nokia tv remote controller. Batteries show over 1, 5V voltage per piece, but almost none of the buttons work. Found out while testing if my early 80's Mattel Intellivision videogame console still work, and it does.
Oh yeah and I don't smoke so nicotine isn't the reason why the remote controller buttons don't work, haha.

I don't know about Best Buy (and I'm in the US so it might be different in Canada) but I still do see regular DVD players for sale new at some department stores. But most of them (I think) only have HDMI out and optical out and few (if any) buttons on the front panel. Very basic units. Just about any older Sony unit you find at a thrift shop will have lots more connectivity and be more substantially built. The newer ones might have a better picture (I don't know. I'm not buying one to find out). I bought a new LG Blu-Ray at Meijer recently and it's OK.

Anyway, my local Meijer only has (I think) one model of regular DVD player and I think it's a Sony. I have probably 10 or more older DVD players that all work so I don't need a new one.

My first DVD player was Toshiba player which was 500.00 us dollars back then and the first ones sucked ass.
DVD was very new then
I bought mine at target.

Just think what smoking does to your lungs if the residual smoke causes so much build-up inside the DVD player. You cured the "lung cancer" in this DVD player.

Region codes. At least in Australia i've got a local Laser blu ray player which it advertises on the box region free capable but the manual tells you how to change a simple code to the region when you want to watch say a region A blu ray otherwise the players locked to B. The dvd is also built region free but the same option is there as well but I've never had to use it.

Do you have a link for your orange handled screwdriver? Might sound weird, but having a slender shank vs. having a thick screwdriver shank and a small bit plugged in could mean all the difference in being able to fit the scrfewdriver in there in the first place... I've searched all over amazon and can't find one like the model you have.

Must be a first gen DVD Player as no HDMI on it. Back then they still make many players in Japan & Taiwan & some started to be made in China. -Cheers!

I find it fascinating that a whole lot of still pictures can make a motion picture without noticeable jerks. The speed and the gradualism (the right term?) make it appear smooth, I suppose. Interesting.
They called random playback "shuffle" on my old CD player. I don't know why they don't put shuffle on all players. I guess it costs more.
