Laughter erupts as Russia's Lavrov says Ukraine started war against Russia

A crowd at an event in India appeared to laugh at Russia's foreign minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday (March 3) after he said the Ukraine conflict was "launched against us".

Lavrov was speaking after attending a G20 meeting of foreign ministers.

Responding to a question on energy he said: "the war which we are trying to stop and which was launched against us using Ukrainian people," as he was interrupted by laughter.

Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago in what the Kremlin calls a "special military operation".

I didn't realize "trying to stop the war" means mobilizing over and over to throw more soldiers into the meat grinder, starting mass attacks against civilian targets when your military fails to secure victory against the enemy military etc. Russia rewrites not only history but also basic word definitions.
