2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Review

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 17 years since a hatchback version of the Honda Civic was last sold in North America.
Sure, there was Honda’s half-hearted attempt at reviving the beloved bodystyle in the early 2000s with the niche three-door Civic Si, but even that was discontinued more than a decade ago, leaving a huge gap in the automaker’s lineup. But Honda is ready to make up for lost time with an all-new Civic hatch aimed at fun and function.

Guys don't listen to this person. The CVT in this car is great, it doesn't feel like a rubber band. A lot of people can't tell the difference

If they are going to make a hatch, then make it a 2 door and an actual hatch! This just looks like a regular 4 door car. I don't know, just not what I was expecting.

I like the new styling of the Civic Hatchback. I recently reviewed a 2016 Civic Sedan and besides the rear hatch they both look almost identical. Actually, I had a tough time distinguishing the two at the dealership until I walked around back. With that aside, in my eyes the Civic Hatch looks very preppy and somewhat sophisticated. It isn't overly sporty, but still has enough sportiness to lead back to its roots. Also, having 26 cubic ft. of space is definitely on the larger side in its class. I might actually consider getting one of these! Keep up the great work AutoGuide!

I just got one last night and it is great. I got the LX trim and it feels very firm, quiet, and it is fast. No problems with the CVT transmission. Oh and the volume knob is back!

Manual Hatch review was something I've been waiting for. It is a great review. I wish the video covered driving dynamics and gear shifting....

This is what happen when you convert a four door sedan into a hatchback. It look hideously out of place.

Variable ratio steering has nothing to do with weight like this guy was going on about. Weighting has to do with the speed sensitive system just about every modern car with electric power steering has. Variable ratio steering means the rotation of the steering wheel does not equally translate to the same amount of front wheel lock all the time. Just about off centre on the steering wheel until about half or 3/4 turn will turn the front wheels a lot, and thereafter that, the front wheels don't turn as quickly. This means very slight movements of the steering translates into more aggressive front wheel angles... great on a fun and twisty country road, but not so great on a highway where such a system can make a car feel twitchy if it's not tuned correctly.

No volume nob need for the passenger. It's not his / her car anyway you shouldn't reach to the volume.

Was this a prototype? The dealer says I can't get a manual and the larger touch display with Android auto but it seems you drove one.
