It's a decent detachment and i like how its completely different from the other Tau detachments but its not as good as some people only have been saying.

I think its the classic of on paper its broken strong but on the table things don't play as smoothly as you'd think.

For me the biggest problem is you need kroot to have any rules but they can't use the greater good rule so you are losing the ability to get +1 to hit and to remove cover so your +1 ap is just the same as no cover most of the time. Plus it's a lot of CP for some of the combo's.

You've also got to get kroot and vespid with 9 and visible for the +1 so they are getting removed next turn with incidental fire.

For the lone op rule the unit must be wholly within 6 and visible, so yeah they can shoot the kroot but they can shoot your Tau a lot of the time. I don't want my tau to be shot.

It's not bad but it's not the best.

I think it’s an extra layer of movement, but it has the potential to be more dangerous than our other detachments.

I think the new detachment gives some units a reason to be in a tau centred list. I think the big thing is to avoid the temptation to put loads of auxillaries in, enough so that you get the detachment buffs and the auxikkaries aren't wiped out easily but not too much to take too much away from the tau firepower. Having rampagers good outside the kroot detachment gives an assault unit with speed and hitting power that tau haven't had and is something I'd really like to try out.

It give Tau players a viable option to use Kroot and Vespids and still talk those staple Tau units which benefit from the auxiliary use.

Its not awful... but lethal hits is better. And getting +1 ap and +1 strength up close for battlesuits is also better.
