Here’s a fact for y’all:
It’s been revealed by the director of the movie that the voice actor for bing bong cried as he said his final line “take her to the moon for me, okay?”
This same line is also what nearly made the voice actress for joy to break down in tears due to how emotional it was, so the actual sadness in joy’s voice was genuine and not acting

I teared up when I saw this scene. This is where Joy's paradigm changed and she accepted sadness influence for Riley. That's why the core memories turn blue and yelow. Sucha beautiful scene.

Took my niece to see this when it first came out. She was bawling at this scene to the point that I had to take her out of the theater. And I wasn't doing much better.

I love how joy puts down the core memories before going to see him, because she once prioritized the core memories the most, as shown in the scene where they rescue bing bong, but now, she has empathy for others.

Every year on my birthday I either rewatch the movie or just this particular scene, to honour all the things that made my childhood beautiful, even though I may not remember them all. Every time I bawl my eyes out, for all the innocent and pure happiness that I have lost forever.

What got me was there wasn't one ounce of regret or sadness in his voice once he realized his sacrifice worked. Riley was going to be okay now, and that was good enough for him. To quote a book:
