What is a Tracheostomy Tube Obturator? #shorts Life with a Vent

Показать описание
An obturator is a special instrument which is included with the tracheostomy tube. It is used when placing a tracheotomy tube into the airway or for emergency clearance of the tracheostomy tube. It is inserted into the main body of the tracheostomy tube. It gives rigidity to the tracheotomy tube which assists with the insertion of the tracheostomy tube.

The bullet shaped end of the obturator acts as a guide to help place the tracheostomy tube into the airway. The smooth rounded tip protects the airway from damage during the insertion process. Once the tracheostomy tube is inserted, the obturator should be removed immediately because the obturator obstructs the tracheostomy tube. This makes breathing through the tracheostomy tube difficult. Leaving the obturator in the tracheostomy tube may cause the person to go into respiratory distress. #lifewithavent #shorts #trach

Thank you for making this educational content! I am currently in nursing school and our notes included information and a picture of an obturator, but i couldn't wrap my head around its function! This helped immensely!!

Sometimes, as a challenge, I try to figure out the meaning of a word from what appear to be its roots or similar words - couldn’t do it this time! Can’t win ‘em all...lol. Thanks for the lesson, though.

I have a more personal question. Since my ordeal began in July of 2019, I havent been on a single date. It feels weird to even think about it sometimes. Do you date?
