Hello and welcome! I'm Betty Franks, and I create my vision of abstract fields of flowers using acrylic paints and pencils (and other mark-making tools). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel a couple of times a year to Preko, Croatia (where my parents live). I started painting in 2012 and focused on abstract art in the summer of 2015. Follow all my art adventures on Instagram or Facebook (links below).

Thank you so so much for your guidance and sharing your experiences of creating beautiful inspired art! You are a wonderful teacher. I am a long time hobby artist (almost 73!) and I truly enjoy learning the various ways and methods you use in your creative process.

I've used lace as stencil, store bought stencils, bubble wrap, sea sponges, regular sponges. Lot's of things! Loved this!

You can find different textures on paper towels.
I love your videos, Betty. So inspiring and helpful. Thank you 😊

Thank you Betty, for this reminder to still "play" with our materials. This will make for a happier experience when beginning a piece, to experiment once again and create marks in the background that inform the later layers. So much to experience in an art practice and you make it happen.

I love your videos, Betty! I like using the end of empty toilet paper rolls dipped in paint to put circles on my page, and I love scraping in wet paint with plastic forks and knives. It's fun to see how much conversation this video generated! Thanks for your generosity with your process. I am always inspired.

Spattering paint with a toothbrush, printing patterns with handmade fun foam stamps, dragging a feather through paint - just some other ideas. Thank you for you for your colourful videos.

Paper doilies, especially valentines ones are great to work with.

I liked the random shapes out of wax paper. Have not use that one, but will try it now. I like to borrow the kids Legos. They make great little circles and marks, another favorite of mine is a hair pick from the dollar store, or a dollar store hairbrush make great marks. Thanks a lot for tickling my imagination again I’m inspired.

Lots of inspired ideas❤️ Thank you for sharing Betty🙏🏼 I’ve been saving any packaging that has interesting textures for my mixed media experiments and making stamps by cutting shapes out of craft foam and then sticking them onto cardboard from old boxes………having fun and recycling😊🎨

Thanks Betty. I love your videos. You are so generous. I create textured papers like your wall paper using glue to create the design. Let dry then use the way you did the wall paper. Thanks again.

Great video...will give all of those a try. I love using bubble wrap from packaging to stamp onto the paper. Even the paper bubble wrap works well.

I am saying how much I apply what you demonstrated to kids when I teach! I love your demos, as a teacher I like to include the elements of design and a bit of art history.

Thank you for sharing. I do use stencils from waxed paper or Mylar. Also have used foam sheets from the art store and used a ballpoint pen to incise a pattern like lines and then print from that. I will look for a fine tip applicator. I appreciate your videos ❤

Betty you’re an inspiration! And your beautiful painting ‘Winter Jewels’ gives me such joy each morning! This tutorial is great. Sometimes the simple things can be just the right touch. Adele S does these things too. Thankyou ❤️
