.
. Alaska has a really busy flying season during the summer. It's the perfect weather, long days, and so many different options from bush wheels to floats. But what about winter time? Well, lots of things slow down flying wise, but it doesn't mean we can't still have some fun. That brings on the fun, different and exciting skis training I'm about to do with Alaska Floats and Skis.
What is during the summer a floatplane lake turns into a lake meant for skis. The winter freezes over the lake and leaves one bit, flat landing surface with runways in all directions. What better way to hold over through the winter than with some flight training and flying in a much different type of operation -- skis!
That's exactly what I did the first week of March, going to up to Talkeetna Alaska where I did my float rating, but not flying on skis. I'm really looking forward to the experience of flying these bush planes and learning the ins and outs of winter flying.
While I do some winter flying, I haven't done it like this, landing on remote lakes. This was sure to be a really fun time. To make it even better, my wife came along for the flying adventure. She's not so into the flying itself as she is the cabin, and break from the kids. Plus, it's her birthday in a few days, so we're excited about that.
