If democracy is so important in to United States, why is voting day not a day off for everybody?
why is it not like holidays when nobody really has to go to work in order to get a chance to vote?

In South Africa, it is a public holiday so most people aren't at work. If you do work, your employer must make sure you have time to vote before or after your shift.
It is also on a Wednesday so people can't make a long weekend out of it.

It’s interesting how Tuesday seems to have been picked to ease the access to voting (to the few privileged people allowed to vote) and now it’s being used to make it harder for people to vote.

Would get more voter turnout if we get election day as a national holiday. I mean, it's the most patriotic thing to do if we all want to go out and vote to celebrate democracy, right?

In Germany you always vote on a sunday because almost all business are closed on sunday. So basically almost everyone can go vote easily. I have the feeling that there is the idea that voting should be as easy as possible.

Voting day here in Taiwan is on Saturday. Every district (not voting district. They're more like suburbs. Like Beverly Hills in LA or Capital Hill in Seattle.) here has an "activity center" and, unless it's not big enough, that's where the voting is held. Honestly, it works out pretty well.
