The first time i've ever seen this game was in a review for it and at the start the guy simply intreduced sam by saying:

Still, it's funny how Raiden might be most effeminated character in Metal Gear yet he is the only man who married a woman. Snake and Otacon adapted a child though

If you think about it, "kill your dad then die of old age" can be valid advice for raiden:
Killing your dad means that you have the willpower to kill a family member, which shows that you have the willpower to survive
Dying of old age means that you don't die in conbat
Essentially, Snake is telling him to be brave and not die if you look at it like an english teacher would

I love that in Raiden's mind palace, he meets Snake at the end of MGS2, because there's not a single other time where things are even relatively that normal.

And they already did the second dad killing for you in MGS4, Raiden. You're halfway there!
