FEDRA, afaik, is a federal agency that siezed control in a time of crisis to carry out acts that would not have been able to be done had it gone through the normal processes of the US government.

These acts may be viewed by many as violent and unjust, often rash too. But they ultimately succeeded in what they were meant to do, and that was to secure safe areas for survivors to shelter in.

Of course, once that had been complete, they had to restore order. Given that all previous precedent was lost in the initial crisis, that meant things like personal rights and the constitution were rendered void. With FEDRA in control, it would fall under militarism in its day to day governing. Most generals aren’t good politicians, afterall.

FEDRA had not desired to carry out genocide, or to single out particular groups of people within the society as scape goats. They maintained the order that was seen as necessary in order to maintain the remnants of society that is at constant biological threat.

The natural distrust in authority in civilians that had already existed prior to the outbreak remains ever firm. The distrust goes both ways, constantly escalating with each act both sides carry out. Thus, the idea of FEDRA being fascist remains questionable, as it feels more as an attached descriptors then genuine fact.

FEDRA being authoritarian however, feels more appropriate. Though the intentions of various people in FEDRA may lean more towards gaining more power, it doesn’t feel FEDRA has much of an agenda. They primarily want to maintain the status quo they were set out to do, and that was to preserve what remains of society. And as a result, that leads to them needing to deal with varying threats that present themselves

FEDRA is super interesting to me because they are the remnants of the actual US government pre-outbreak, i’m curious to know whether the QZ’s that we interact with in game were just weak or had shit luck and somewhere out there in greater America FEDRA actually has shit under control in some aspect that’s similar to what it was like pre-outbreak. It’d be interesting to explore a plot where the current canon survivors decide they wanna explore outwards more and they come across a FEDRA camp or facility or full on city even that’s thriving and they find out that the stronger groups plan on pushing out towards their territory that’s long gone to try to reestablish it or just find out what happened to it, which could then lead them down the path of learning about how Ellie was thought to be the key to a cure and then the events of part 2 etc etc, that’s the beauty of these things, the sky’s the limit!

Fedra aren't really fascists. They're just normal soldiers that took charge during the outbreak and they actually are pretty decent. Are they harsh to suspected infected and strict when enforcing rules? Absolutely, but they're fair and it's for a valid reason. They also aren't just seeking power for power's sake like fascists typically do.

Now if we were talking about the Combine, that's a different story.
