Volvo C40 Recharge Test Drive: Lots of Luxuries and Fun To Drive in This 4 Door Electric SUV

Our Liv Leigh takes a test drive in the Volvo C40 Recharge Twin Ultimate and gives us a tour of this all electric SUV is priced from about $56K to about $60K. The Volvo C40 Recharge has a 226 mile driving range, 7" of ground clearance and off road mode for challenging driving conditions. It can charge at a level 3 charge station delivering up to 150 kWh which will replenish about 80% of the charge in about 40 minutes.

This is a Powerful Electric SUV!
With 402 horsepower and 487 torque, the C40 Recharge is powerful and fast, though drivers can maximize battery power with one pedal driving, which can be turned on or off; there are no adjustments or paddles.

How Does the C40 Recharge Accommodate Drivers with Physical Challenges?
With a prosthetic right leg and some limited mobility, Liv found the C40 Recharge easy to drive and control; the lift gate is easy to open and close, and adjusting the driver's seat could easily be accommodated by opening the door for more room to make adjustments. Plus, using the driver memory setting makes it even easier to accommodate.

Lots of Luxuries in this Compact SUV
Luxuries in the Volvo C40 Recharge include a Google-operated multimedia system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, road sign display and navigation on the drivers information screen, a wireless phone charger, a sculpted shifter, a removable trash can in the center console, premium Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof with coated glass, rear climate control and rear power ports for back seat passengers. Liv especially liked calm mode, which allows the driver to simplify the driver information screen to add a bit of Zen to the C40 Recharge cabin.

That was one of the best reviews of the C40 I've seen that is given from the prospective of the typical buyer, perhaps the only one that omits a demonstration of the vehicle's maximum acceleration. I can add a couple of details.

Firstly, the blue interior is available for the Plus and Ultimate trims, for all exterior colours other than Fusion Red and Sage Green, provided the seats are those shown in the video. A charcoal interior is available for all trims and exterior colours. Tailored wool seats (with a charcoal interior and crystal gear selector) are available with the Plus and Ultimate trims (my choice).

Some viewers may think that range is adversely affected by turning off One-Pedal Mode, but that is not the case. In fact, range may be increased by doing so. That's because it allows for coasting and Volvo (unlike Tesla, for one) uses "blended braking", meaning that regenerative braking is applied when the brake pedal is depressed. The friction brakes are only employed (in addition to regenerative braking) when the brake pedal is depressed sharply, as in an emergency situation, or when the C40's safety systems deem it necessary.

I wonder how practically no viewers and test drivers know about the cooler switch inside the clove box - it is a little bit hidden in there and has a snow flake picture on it. This is very handy option while longer trips, because it’s fantastic to be able to reach your cool drink any time during the journey! I use it often.
