I have a cheap copy of this plane I bought new for about $12.00 American. The castings were rough but nothing a bit of patience and elbow grease couldn't remedy. It cuts very well and I can only imagine how much better the original would be. I love planes and appreciate the time you spend explaining their use and adjustment. God bless.

I just found this video. That's the first hand plane I purchased at a flea market around 15 years ago, but haven't used it much. You have inspired me to tune it up and use it more... Thanks from Parma, Ohio.

I just bought a Wards-brand copy of this very rebate plane at an antique shop. It has no adjustment lever, but otherwise it is pretty much identical. I'm very glad you did this video long before I found my plane. Now I know about the bull-nose set-up too. Thank you.

The only video I've seen that clearly and comprehensively explains this plane. A real treat and great help. Thanks.

Great informational video, I just purchased one just like that, tried to get a good deal, but good deals were fixer upper plane, parts only type. I finally got me one in excellent shape. I'm currently trying to put together a hands only ( no power tools ) carpenters tool box. ( I was glad to been given my wife's grandfather tool box, a real gem, but tools have been gone out of it for years, bummer!) I had some I have used over the years but now I am getting into it more, I guess I'm thinking of my own grandchildren. I'm am also setting up a small blacksmith shop, as I have done a little of that years ago. I am preparing these two trades as I am wanting to learn more about both, and hope to be able to retire in 5 more years ( 67 then). But with that being said, tools are getting harder to find and at decent prices! You guys provide us with such good advice on the technics of using these tools and is deeply appreciated. Oh yeah, I must be watching to many videos as the wife had to take me to the doctor yesterday as I had a horrible pain in my back and hip! Could not stand up or walk without a cane, found out I have an inflamed sciatica nerve. Now I got a bum left shoulder and back! He put me on meds and told me to watch my favorite channels on youtube, well I added that last part. LOL. Well enough about me, I hope all is well with you, Take care!

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. Just yesterday I happened on one that was brand spanking new still in the box. Naturally, I couldn't resist buying it, especially for $30.

I just picked one of these up at my local antique store. It's a beauty! Thanks for the video for alignment tips and use!

Hi. The blade if you look at it carefully, it has a relief edge this is for a purpose. The blade is designed to protrude ever so slightly out side of face. This cuts the wall of the rebate. Cheers Robin Alexander

Just bought a 78 at a car boot for £10, and I now know that the fence and nicker cutter are missing thanks to watching your video. I've found a fence on Amazon for the 78 for £17 but as ill be mainly using it to trim up tenons ill leave it. Good informative vid.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. No other videos I've seen on the 78 explained what the forward blade position was good for. Curiosity satisfied.

Thanks for that explanation. The plane I inherited has the fence attached by 2 pins (not 1), and the small cutter is circular with a  short flat section (not 3 stubs) . The plane also  has a personalised "mod" in the form of a hand knob secured in the front blade slot - it makes two handed use much easier.
