In my house, "seam allowance" is whatever money you can recover from the tiny space between the couch cushions, LOL!!!

Sweet heavens thank you. I was trying to figure out how exactly you know where to stitch your seam ... so many videos "here's how you cut the pattern and sew", but not one explained this little bit in relation to the measurements on the plate.

I am coming in blind, and while I have probably learned many little things just from my mother always sewing stuff, there are the details I am still learning
