Labour leader Keir Starmer wants to help tackle the rising energy bills this winter as he sympathises with families continuing to struggle.

It comes as Labour have vowed to extend the windfall tax to freeze family fuel bills as part of their "emergency" plan to tackle the crisis.

The price cap will not protect UK consumers from rising imported wholesale costs. It was never designed to. The cap is designed to stop unfair pricing from the energy companies, but was always linked to the price they buy energy in at. Their profits will increase monetarily because what they buy it in at has increased monetarily, so they would boost profits even if their margins remained the same. Who is going to make up the difference if they freeze what energy companies can sell at, when the cost for them to buy it is increasing? Starmer can promise this because it makes him look good, but then he doesn’t have to deliver on it at all.

Take the treasury out of the equation, just impose a mandatory restoration of energy costs as they were a year ago. Centralised 'redistribution' of wealth always ends up with the well-off getting richer pro rata, it never sustainably lifts those with lower incomes.

Keir is on target help the old age pensioners in particular, these are the good people who are at serious threat. These are the righteous vulnerable senior citizens, because they can not earn extra incomes to pay. I will always be fair and balanced, Keir is correct, we do need effective strategic planning. .. However the Conservatives are some what at a disadvantage fighting an internal leadership contest.

We should introduce a Corporation Tax based on a sliding scale as we plebs have to suffer. It would force energy companies to re-invest as well as satisfy shareholders. Extra taxes raised pay for services.
