X-Plane is a flight simulator produced by Laminar Research. X-Plane can be used professionally with the correct license or used personally. A personal use desktop version is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, while a mobile version is available for Android, iOS, and WebOS.

X-Plane is packaged with several commercial, military, and other aircraft, as well as basic global scenery which covers most of the Earth. X-Plane also ships with other software to build and customize aircraft and scenery.

X-Plane also has a plugin architecture that allows users to create their own modules, extending the functionality of the software by letting users create their own worlds or replicas of places on Earth. This is further enhanced by the Scenery Gateway which allows users to share airports with other users and eventually the airports are included by default in the base product.

Three years on, we have an updated video! X-Plane 11 Vulkan vs Prepar3D v5, which flight simulator currently stands out on the market in 2020!

The very fact that you are even doing this comparison 10 yrs later shows how incredible fsx is

Of course X-Plane 11 has better graphics etc. But keep in mind FSX was made in 2006. At this time the graphics of FSX were quite amazing!

Nice one mate. I used to be really into flight sims a few years back. All these flight vids makes me wanna get back on them again.

Why fsx v xp11 and not p3d v4 v xp11. As you point out fsx is 11 years old. It is like comparing a sega megadrive to a ps4. I did like the way you did your video though.

You can't compare them directly because the ecosystem that has sprung up around FSX makes comparison impossible. Years of development cannot be ignored. For the dedicated flight simulation enthusiast, FSX today is not FSX out of the box. Period. Many of us have vast collections of addons that have made FSX a very viable simulator 11+ years after its release.

If somebody were just getting into flight simulation, I can see XP11 being the logical choice. Its not that simple for many of us with all that we have added to FSX to make it the simulator it is, today.

FSX is good for people on old hardware, reached 60fps on low settings in my laptop.

To be fair, for a simulator released in 2006, FSX has gone far above and beyond its potential, and still performs well today. Some people have FSX running with mods looking like most peoples' XP11 is now. The platform was solid as a rock back when it was released and it proved that with how much it's put up with over the years. I'd like to see XP11 in 12 years having the amount of mods, tools and edits of FSX, and still compete with the market of 12 years in the future.

Although an XP11 user now, I will always love my beloved FSX and the empire of addons I had built for it.

Thank you! Finally a video which shows comparison of the vanilla versions and not one that has been modded through it's teeth with expensive payware mods

FSX's biggest issue is its 32 bit limitations. It can be modded to awesome near-photorealism, but it will easily run out of memory if you try to push it. Pretty much every major plane has a high res texture pack. All the flight peripherals and hardware over the years is geared towards it. Really no reason not to re-release in 64 bit and let the community keep doing their thing. Every single downside here can be fixed by mods.

Well... FSX is from 2006 so it's really no comparison with modern computing and modern development platforms.

About the customizability aspect. In terms of aircraft, X-Plane supplies the aircraft editor and you can build the aircraft fairly easily without having to manually punch in performance data apart from the engines. In FSX however, the terrain can be modified more easily.

If you look at the difference in time, X-plane is 10 years younger, than FSX is amazing. And it still is. With add ons like the A2A Piper it still beats X-plane.

The reason some people still use FSX is either because it's cheaper, only has low end computers, or just want to stay in their childhood.
