All the comments saying "seems logical to me as I'm low rated" are totally missing the fact that he's sacrificing his knight on C4 to play Qg3

Lots of people here seem to think that hanging a knight is a logical move

I first thought Qg3 was very sensible because the idea is too pin g7 pawn but then I just realized the knight is hanging so I understand why many GM think the move is crazy.

Let's be real here, Qg3 is something a lot of 1200 rated players would have also played 😄

Hans had something up his "sleeve"

Idk about the move but Hikaru’s fake laugh is definitely insane

every saying "every saying it seems logical to a low rated player but miss that it hangs the knight", no, it's 2 pieces for a rook and a pawn, material count is even at the end but its also the first move that anyone would look at, good or not

I think the best move black can do here is pawn to f5, all black pieces are stuck and white has a setup for a mate in 2 with bishop and the queen if the king has no way to escape. If white takes, Qf6 or Rf6 prevents it, if not the king has a way to escape and some sort of protection.

I remember that in the interviews Hans couldn't even explain his moves and thoughts and calculations lol

Hans didn't play it. His buddy stockfish did. Notice how in the tournament he made no crazy moves that were best move like this.

Queen g3 is the gigachad bullet chess move. Maybe Hans forgot he was playing classical otb? xD

PPL forget to realise that they need to bear the risk of losing the game with high stakes and sometimes taking the risk doesn't pay off and the opponent makes for whatever little counterplay they have

Hans actually plays bs moves like that quite often. Sometimes it worked, sometimes he got wrecked. I truly don't understand Hikaru's overreaction though.

Being a recent 1150, i find Qg3 it to be a good attacking move😂

I don’t know. Kasparov offered his rook for sacrifice in his famous January 1999 game against Topalov without calculating all of the possible lines. He famously won the game. The computers of that era needed hours to see the sacrifice was sound, so cheating was simply impossible in the game.

I understand he’s hanging a knight but isn’t the compensation clear since he’s setting up a mating attack with the bishop and Q? Bishop can take the H pawn g pawn’s pinned setting up mate. Even with the sac I don’t see how this is that crazy. Is there something else going on that the mating attack doesn’t work? What am I missing?

I mean queen g3 is a good move because the pawn is pinned after the bishop takes the pawn, so it does make some sense to be honest.

What is the full engine line that justifies this move? Cannot see it.
