The thing that fascinates me about Stirling engines is that they can operate entirely on waste heat; for example, our power stations all generally use steam turbines, where the steam just ends up in cooling towers that throw the steam into the atmosphere. Stirling engines could take the heat from that steam and eke out a bit more energy. It's cool to think about, and maybe it could even make spaceships just that bit more efficient someday.

Did his accent suddenly change to British at one point early on??
Also "bootane" 😅

weak explanation of how a stirling engine works. It is the heat differential that drives the piston, not the raw heat.

I dug a fire pit in the backyard to make charcoal and this will be perfect over the fire. I'll build it to scale and produce my own power.

Kinda scared me with that bootane there 👻

There are subcultures like dieselpunk or steampunk... But honestly, I'm waiting for Stirlingpunk subculture to rise 😁

My favorites were the solar powered engine and the large homemade engine.

I would honestly marry a Stirling Engine if I were so lucky <3

The Swedes built 2 hybrid sterling powered submarines that sunk a US carrier during wargames. The sub got in sunk the carrier and got out without being detected. A bit embarrassing for the US Navy and showing how vulnerable big ships are in Naval warfare!

I think the solar powered one got short changed. That was a very weak amount of sunlight that was concentrated. Here in Texas, i might not even need a lens. Just leave it in the sun and cool the other end. Strap some ice on it. Make the tank out of steel and paint the hot side black. Wrap a cooling tube one the other side and run coolant through it.

Note that the V-4 was not running. I have one and it doesn't work either. Those angled tubes make it very difficult to heat.

Where are the links to the YouTube videos that you mentioned, I did not find them in the description?

2:12 My theory is right: many small cylinders means much area to volume ratio which means much power! So I will go further. First I'll make an engine with flat and wide pistons (it's almost made), then I'll make an engine with incredibly many small tube cylinders. It will be the future of the energy industry.

Denatured alchohol burns clean. It actually cleaned all the burnt on soot from isopropyl.

It will run on a candle but creates soot on it.

Quick Rundown of Alpha vs. Beta vs. Gamma Stirling Engines:
Alpha: _2_ power pistons, _2_ cylinders, _0 displacers_ [a.k.a. "displacement-pistons"]
Beta: _1_ power piston, _1_ cylinder, _1 displacer_ [a.k.a. "displacement-pistons"]
Gamma: _1_ power piston, _2_ cylinders, _1 displacer_ [a.k.a. "displacement-pistons"]

And this is where people confuse Alpha and Gamma Stirling Engines: because the displacer is sometimes called a "displacement piston" and because it has its own cylinder, people think: "2 cylinders, 2 pistons … must be Alpha!"
But as I point out: Alpha has _0 displacement pistons_ — both pistons are power-pistons and no "displacement" [like in a Beta or Gamma engine] takes place.
