You are doing a great job teaching the method of playing spoons. It has a sound which is enhancing. Interest has been aroused by watching videos of Abbey, The Spoon Lady. Her playing is flawless watching her play country music with other musicians. Before her videos appeared no one knew about it. Thanks again for your excellent teaching!!! I think it will become popular on all levels!!!

Extremely helpful video series.  I had gone through a couple other tutorials on here but yours was most thorough and easiest to follow!  Now off to irritate the other inhabitants of this domicile with my clackety clack!

Thanks Jason! Having little luck after watching half a dozen similar videos I'd all but given up, but then, thankfully I came across your lessons. Your instructions were concise and easy to understand. Keep up the good work.

I played the spoons the other day but I tore of some on the skin on my finger and bruised my leg abit I think I might be playing them wrong plus sometimes the spoons slip from my fingers at the moment I'm still playing them but trying to keep the spoons from falling sideways when I tap on them lol I'll get the hang of it soon I tried playing to Roy acuffs I saw the light it was OK but no where near as good as your playing I'm a learner I'll keep learning your videos are really helping they're great

The tension on the top spoon varies based on how hard you press with your thumb. A lot of tension is needed for the rake, while light tension for normal motions. The bottom spoon always remains stable and in the same place.

I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. :-)

They are the same size, just over time they tend to get dented, and you will prefer one spoon to always be on top, and one always on bottom. (They just 'fit' together better that way) I usually put some scratches on my top spoon, so it's easier and faster to get them setup in my hands.

The pitch changes come from varying the angle that the spoon hits your leg or hand. Hitting at an angle, produces a "Clack", hitting the spoon straight down is more of a "pop" sound.

Hope that helps!
