Video playback software is like printers: It's going to be an unruly PITA until the heat death of the universe. :D This problem also affects Windows as well, when playing some old games. (Thief 2 is a good example, if I remember correctly. Unless it's been fixed up by Gog or similar since then.)

as a note for future reference: steam deck depot /= steam depots. there may be huge differences between them.

a good example of this is the "one piece" version of the kingdom hearts games (steam ver). the one piece version use the normal depots and suffer from the garbage encrypted FMV's that SE used on the trash version from epic games on steamOS. the SD depot use its own FMV files and those work perfectly on steamOS.

Any idea if Beyond Hanwell is playable on steamdeck? I get a Microsoft Visual C++ message and I watched Monroe's oast video explaining how to fix this with protontricks, but unfortunately it didnt work for me. I am dying to play this game! Any insight or potential solutions would be super amazing!!!! TIA
