📢 Labradoodles and goldendoodles may look pretty similar, but they also have plenty that makes them different from one another. Although they may share a poodle parent, when it comes to things like coat texture, colors, and even their sizes they couldn’t be more different. We’re really excited to get to do a dog breed comparison on these two great cross-breeds, as we often get asked to describe what exactly makes either of these dogs stand out from each other. Today we are going to get to the bottom of what both dog has to offer, as well as the things you should be aware of before getting one for yourself.

👉 A Quick Overview

🐶 Labradoodle
A Labradoodle is what you get when you cross a poodle with a Labrador retriever. At the moment of recording, the Labrador retriever is the number one most popular breed of dog worldwide according to the American Kennel Club, and it’s mostly due to their extreme friendliness that allows them to get along with strangers, children, and really anyone.

🐶 Goldendoodle
Goldendoodles have been covered pretty frequently on this channel, so bare with us as we fill in any newcomers to the channel. This cross-breed is the result of mixing the poodle and the golden retriever. Golden retrievers are the number three most popular dog breed in the world at the moment, and were even more popular before the goldendoodle burst onto the scene.

🐶 Which breed is bigger?
Put up against each other, the Labradoodle is the slightly larger option than the goldendoodle. This advantage is attributed mostly to the Labradoodle simply being a bigger dog than the golden retriever, which gives their offspring the edge here.

🐶 How do they behave?
It’s worth noting that personality can fluctuate depending on how much poodle or lab the dog inherits, but generally the Labradoodle will inherit some pretty ideal traits that dog owners will love. These are loyal animals, who will be devoted to their owners and their families for their entire lives, and they are also friendly and sweet too.

🐶 What is their life expectancy?
The life expectancy of both the goldendoodle and the Labradoodle is between 10 and 15 years. Many factors play a role in this one, such as genetics, diet, exercise, and just dumb luck, but both are evenly matched. Goldendoodles are a very popular dog breed and have had to deal with poor breeding practices that have affected their lifespans more than the Labradoodle, but both are healthy dogs when bought from a reputable breeder.

🐶 Any health concerns?
One of the most important things to look at when you are thinking of buying a specific breed of dog is to see if they carry any risk of health complications. Fortunately, as we’ve said earlier, both the Labradoodle and goldendoodle are in general some very pretty dogs, but there are still risks just like with every breed that you will have to keep an eye out for. Starting with the Labradoodle, things like ear infections are pretty common.

🐶 What does training look like?
Training both the Labradoodle and goldendoodle is pretty straightforward because they are just so easy to train. These dogs inherit plenty of brains from the poodle, and they also love to be mentally stimulated. Training these dogs will be a walk in the park, and you may even be able to teach them advanced tricks a lot easier than you would have expected.

🐶 How much will it cost me?
Money is a tricky subject, but also a necessary one when it comes to calculating out if either of these dogs is the right choice for you. These breeds aren’t cheap, but you should take a long view when it comes to the cost of an investment like a goldendoodle or Labradoodle.

I love both! ❤ They're so adorable and lovable! ❤ I remember seeing a golden doodle in my neighborhood one time and she was so sweet and trusting. I was a complete stranger and she came up to me to give me a hug and a kiss. ❤🥺 They need to be protected cuz they're too trusting. ❤❤🐶🐶❤❤

I had a 40-45 lb black Labradoodle called Ceilidh (pronounced Kaylee). We purchased her at 11 months from a breeder in Oregon. We believe she was returned to the breeder as she was afraid of children. This did not bother us as we did not have any. She was a really great dog. She never destroyed anything in the house. Ceilidh passed on April 28, 2023 she was just shy of her 16 yr birthday. We still have all her toys as she never destroyed her toys. We now have a mini red Labradoodle puppy 5 mths called Bella she is quite a handful, very intelligent and loves people and other dogs, although some of the older dogs turn away when they see her coming. We love Labradoodles and look forward to lots of fun time with Bella.

I have a Goldendoodle 5 months old. He is extremely hyper. He's smart and tries to control me, can be stubborn at times. I'm going to get him a trainer to see if it will help. He loves affection and doesn't like to be separated from me. If so he will whine. Very seldom bark. I love him.

I have a Golden Doodle named Lucy. She is the most loving dog I have ever had.
One of her biggest flaws is that she is jealous of the other dogs. She doesn’t fight or show aggression she just wants to wiggle her way between me and them 🥰

Goldendoodles I have known have been more energetic and goofy, whereas my Labradoodle is very chill and makes a great companion. Note there is a big difference between a crossbreed and a multi generational dog who parents are both Labradoodles, their parents are Labradoodles etc. You will get a true Labradoodle.
