I often get asked what the best option is for stock footage and graphics templates and usually my answer is, “it depends.” Because everyone’s needs are different right? Most of the time though, my recommendation is either Envato Elements or Storyblocks and if you’re here you’re probably also trying to decide which one is best for you.

Envato Elements is now offering a 7 day free trial, and the 7 day free trial is what prompted me to make this review, comparing these two services, in the first place. I am subscribed to both and I use both for my own videos and for my clients videos, but by the end of this video you will know whether Storyblocks or Envato Elements is best for you.

Firstly, both Storyblocks and Envato offer stock footage, graphics templates, music, sound effects, photos and vectors so they are very similar in that regard and they both offer unlimited downloads, commercial licensing for client work which is also probably why you’re watching this video because it’s tough to choose. Let’s talk about some of the differences to help you make your decision.

I'm part of a large editing team that has moved over to Storyblocks from Envato because of Envato's awful lack of video compression options and convoluted workflow with zipped files and lengthy downloads. Storyblocks integration with Premiere and After Effects, along with the h264 option feels like it makes the process 5-10x quicker and keeps you in a flow state while editing which is incredibly important.

Full disclosure:
Envato doesn’t have a $16.50/month plan and they don’t tell you that until after you signup.
They do have a $39/month plan and a $198/year plan.
You should warn you viewers about this.

Great work Brad! I can honestly say that I've been using Envato for the last year, and without exception I found what I needed in a heart beat. I must say I haven't tried Storyblocks so I can't compare them, but as always, you shine a bright light! Keep up the awesome work!!

envato is great but the only problem with envato is they do not offer multiple format during downloading the video. second, where storyblocks offer h:264 format as well which is 8 to 10 times smaller in size. otherwise I do not want to be with storyblocks due to their policies, high price and unprofessional and delayed customer support.

Envato please improve this

Give multiple format options to download
do not download in zipped files. it makes the editting process hell lengthy
introduce one click download at least for videos and audios.
develop an adobe plugin for premiere and after effects.

after this, you will rule

I personally use Envato and have to say it's very good and worth the money you pay. Thanks for the comparison video buddy.

I am a stock contributor and I can attest that uploading to envato platform is confusing when compared to storyblocks.

I was personally disappointed in the quality of a lot of the photos and video clips on Envato. It was hard to find something useable, at least the things I was looking for, and what I did find didn't look that great. The music and SFX were pretty good though. Plus they had some rotatable CGI elements you could download still images of which were kinda need at times. I don't know about the templates and such as I never used them. But the yearly price was good especially with a creator code.

You mentioned Envato Elements license only covers usage in projects that are completed during the subscription period.

It sounded like Storyblocks has the same restriction? If so, how did I miss that crucial restriction on the Storyblock website! Ugh! 😞 I recently subscribed to the more costly Storyblocks (1 yr. sub.) over Envato's plan primarily for thinking that Storyblocks license covered usage of downloaded content even if a project was completed after cancelling the subscription. If I got that wrong, then I made a big $$ mistake.

IF both companies have identical license plans (covering unlimited online streaming, social media distribution, TV, Satellite TV, Int'l usage, etc.), then I probably should switch to Envato Elements at the end of this year.

✅GREAT VIDEO….Short & sweet, very clear and helpful and no nonsense! Suggestion…I’d be great to do a 5-10 second intro. You’re obviously very informed about this stuff so tell us who you are, where you’re from and what kind of projects and clients you’ve had.

i have an old 4k video only deal with storyblocks.... as a European i find there stock footage very Anerican and searching is a but clunky ....but they have far more choice in the physics and science stock footage....envato looks better value, especially their sound assets....cant afford both right now, but that is what i really need.

Storyblocks is built into LumaFusion. That being the case, would you still recommend Envato for beginners or Storyblocks?
