I can't think of another space battle scene with this kind of detailed destruction of capital ships except maybe Battlestar Galactica when the Pegasus rams into the Basestar. The Rodger Young getting cut in half and spewing flames and explosions is just a magnificent SFX shot.

Ah yes! The movie that sparked my love for sci-fi. Watched it first time when I was 7 and still remember the feelings I got when the plasma shot splits the ship in two. Best thing is the effects still holds up to this day !

This movie is so inspirational. If you ever screw up at something you really love just remember johhny rico. The legendary infantryman johnny rico was meant to be what he is and at first he screwed up the worst way imaginable, he got someone KILLED haha.

0:50... what gets me anytime I see this movie now that I am grown up - exyctly what was that crew doing in the mess hall or rec room when they were in combat situation? Ok, perhaps a drop isn't exactly combat situation, but considering they are on the orbit of an enemy planet with anti-orbital weapons being shot at them, shouldn't they still be at general quarters? And not just sitting in the mess hall stuffing their faces?
