Nice to see a review from a plumber which doesn't seem like an advertisement.

I needed a new one and upgraded from a badger 100 (1/3) to badger 5x (3/4 HP). It was $100 vs $130 (after rebate) for triple the horse power and because my plumber quoted $250 to install it, I installed it myself very easily since I didn't need to replace the sink part and sinkerator all the same fit

I just replaced a badger five with a three-quarter horsepower compact model. The thing I like about the upgraded models is inside is stainless so it won’t rust out as easily which is exactly what happened with my badger five. The new one is also nearly silent. Where as the badger was super noisy, so I’m happy. And yes, I can attest the only two times in my life where I’ve had a clog was with potato peels or pasta. I learned my lesson.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank you for the time and effort you've put into this video. I've had to replace two gabage disposals already, so I'm on my third disposal now, and it stopped working about 3 months ago. I was going to take your advice and purchase the disposal of my choice and then have a handyman install it to cut costs. Then I saw the part in your video where you showed us how to insert an Allen wrench into the bottom of the unit, rotate, and clear the bottom of the gunk in the disposal. 🥴🥴🥴 My disposal works now.🤣

Believable. Too bad there was some audio problems, if not, I'd say it was a perfect video. Thanks for posting. New sub for your straight talk.

Thanks! Great information. I found you just in time. I'm getting ready to replace our garbage disposal... for the third time in 18 years. I'm not going to put an offbrand unit in this time.
Happy 4th of July!

We have one that the contractor installed when they built our house 6 years ago and it has gotten very loud. Maybe a barring is going out? Anyway, just ordered a insinkerator from Amazon for $199. It's the 45ss quite series with a 3/4hp motor. I sure hope it's quite!
I will install it this week. I did get the cord from Lowes and it's a quick plug it. The disposal has 3 prongs at the bottom so no need to mess with any wires! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and a new subscriber here!

Lol I no longer work in the field and spend most of my time trying to talk people out of flooding their house or creating s traps in the retail world… I also constantly try to steer people away from those Moens and other disposals. Get a 1/2 hp insinkerator, you’ll be just fine. Put your food in the garbage the disposal is for the left over rice and what not stuck to the plate

I noticed that there are two motor types you can get them with. There is permanent magnet or induction. Induction is usually going to last longer since they don't have brushes like the permanent magnet ones do. If you have any good power tools like compressors or table saws the better ones come with an induction motor. Induction motors are quieter or maybe even silent depending on the quality of them. If you have a swimming pool the motor on the filter is induction and rated to run for a long time too. Even if they overheat for some odd reason they may have a thermal fuse that temporarily disables it so it can cool back down and those fuses usually reset automatically but the same motors may even have a circuit breaker (that red button).

I’ve never had a garbage disposal but am going to install one soon. Do they automatically turn on when it senses water, or do they all need a switch to turn on?

Seems this guy doesn't deal with many septic system homes. Otherwise he'd be singing a different tune about the grind quality difference between the various models. I agree with public drainage systems, as long as you have a decent sized drain setup, that's properly plumbed, you might not "need" (technically) a multi-stage grind unit. Could get away with a single stage unit, as it all just flows to a treatment plant. Not the case with septic systems and their drain fields.

Also, different households have different needs. Some people cook way more, or entertain more, than others. Standalone homes have various outdoor garbage needs/issues (animals, pests, rodents). Some might be more environmentally conscious, etc. Not all households have the same needs. In which case not all of them have the same disposal requirements.

I have used this brand and all they do is RUST out and develop holes and leak. Why not recommend a stainless model?

What’s a disposal for if you can’t put stuff down them? Plate scraps only? Seems like a waste of money if that’s the case.

I would rather use a garbage disposal as a apple grinder or a homemade compost machine in the backyard.
