Back in Mexico the Mayans or the people who keep those ritual alive. Do it outside churches or on the streets. They are performers, some have roots in those rituals but they were not performed inside the churches until Pope Francis started letting this happened. I came to the US and here is where I saw mayan rites INSIDE the church!!! As Mexican I think it should not be done like that. The burning of their copal is not the same as the incense. The copal is for cleansing, insense (frankincense or Myrrh) is for blessing. I am amazed that they are trying to devalue the catholic rite to a simple symbolism and supertision.
