Great video 😊 I would suggest hiring a professional cleaning company to clean the house before you move back in - makes a huge difference 😵‍💫

I'm at the very end of a major renovation (kitchen, 2 bathrooms, adding upstairs bedroom and central air/heat), and can tell you it's not for the faint of heart. Our living area is confined to the living room, one very dusty and crowded bedroom, a basement bathroom, and a mini fridge, hotplate, microwave, and sink down in the basement. All bedrooms except that one are filled with tools, equipment, appliances, and tile. The power is off about 1/3rd of the time, the drywall dust is ever-present, strangers are walking in and out of your home unannounced all of the time, you have to be present CONSTANTLY (there are always questions that need to be answered NOW), and it seems every other day there's a problem that will "only cost about $5, 000 to fix." Five and a half months in, the end is in sight. But my eyes are so polluted with dust, fiberglass, grout, and sawdust, it's hard to see. And yet...I still think the end result will be worth it.

Keep a contingency for take out suppers. If you've got a deep freezer batch cook dinners and freeze them. They'll have you time & money later on. Most people have got a microwave which will come in handy for heating up those batch cooked or ready meals

As you said, there will be mess, but more annoying will be the dust which will get everywhere.

I would decide which rooms you really need (even if that means sharing bedrooms for the duration) and covering the doors with polythene sheeting, making sure that all gaps are taped - including the bottom.

If you have, can hire or borrow, and have somewhere to put it, a camper van or caravan can solve your cooking and dining requirements at a stroke, and, if there are not too many of you, also be somewhere to sleep. Certainly cheaper than a hotel, and in many ways better, too.

Oh, and most importantly, when deciding which kitchen items you need to keep out, make sure that there are enough mugs for you AND the fitters!

Keep the oven in as long as you can. My contractor left the oven in and worked around it for the first month - which was great!

I just discovered your channel and I can’t believe how fortunate it was. I have just started my kitchen remodeling project (early design phase) and I’ve already watched many of your past videos.

Find a contractor that is committed to your project and will be there every day. I had a contractor that was working multiple jobs at once and would disappear for 2 weeks at a time. This ended up taking a one month project to three months! Check their references.

we're looking at moving the kitchen to a different room, so will still have access to cooking / washing up facilities fortunately. this should make living with changes easier. the last kitchen renovation we did we had no kids - we now have 4, so a much busier house!

Never mind workmen walking in & out of your house just try doing it yourself. Its OK if you've got the money to pay someone but real stress only comes with doing it yourself. I still can't believe how many people can't use a screwdriver or change a 3 pin plug never mind put a new kitchen in. Far to many office types without any practical skills in this country now😢
