It astounds me every time how bikes without mudguards, lights and a rack are considered commuter bikes.

Are you joking? One single bike in this list has mudguards? For a commuter mudguards and lights are absolut must haves.

My trek fx is my trusted commuter. I’ve been using a backpack for the longest time, but I know when I eventually buy racks and panniers, it’ll gladly accept them and keep being the reliable all around workhorse that it was built to be.

Greetings from the Netherlands. Must say a love my Sensa Travel Speed, which is marketed as a commuter bike. I'd commute on it myself if I weren't retired. It's made here, so has all the practical bits you'd expect on a Dutch fiets, but doesn't weigh a ton (about 12.5kg in fact), has a ridiculous array of gears for such a flat country and a slightly sporty riding position by Dutch standards. Unfortunately I don't think it's widely available (if at all) in the UK.

I like my drop-bar converted 90's Ridgeback mtb for the commute, 26" Schwalbe Marathon greenguards with Slime sealant in the tubes, wide SKS mudguards, rear rack and pannier bag.

My "commuter" bike could be one of many -- IF I'm able to keep it with me. If I'm going to be locking the bike out of my control, then it's a 2001 Specialized Sirrus Comp that I converted to drop bars with bar-end shifters. It has V-brakes, a 3x9 Sora/Deore XT drive train, and a less than beautiful paint job. It's mechanically perfect, and it can take a pannier rack or pull my Burley trailer. But compared to most other bikes in its performance range, it doesn't look worth stealing. That's a great characteristic for a commuter bike.

Why doesn’t canyon offer the commuter series in the US? 😩 all I can find is the road lite and for commuting, the belt drive makes much more sense!

It’s got heated grips!! Seriously though, if I had to replace my slightly dorky (but totally practical and comfortable) Ridgeback meteor, I’d probably go with that Carrera Subway
