Divorcing because you want to ‘pursue your happiness’ is the saddest, most wicked, pathetic and unjustified of reasons. Marriage and raising a family is an act of total self-sacrifice. It is essentially signing a heart-written contract whereby you are to intentionally place the needs and happiness of your spouse and children above your own. It is saying: ‘how can I best serve my spouse and children in truth, love and honour to God?’
It is not saying: ‘what can my spouse and children do for me?’ If you desire to put yourself first and do your own thing: cool, then do not even get into a relationship, let alone a marriage or raising children. We attain happiness through enabling a successful marriage and raising healthy & happy children as a result of our self-sacrificial service.

This resonated with me... But not in the way that's obvious. I know what you mean, Whatdoyoumeme, but I disagree. I filed for divorce recently. My husband is extremely abusive and has threatened to kick me out and divorce me since we first got married. What did I do to get such treatment? Tell him no. Anytime I tell him no, he goes into a rage. Throwing things at me, kicking my belongings, breaking my belongings and denying it ..
When Kim says that she wants to make herself happy, I understand this because if anyone were to ask me why I divorced my husband, I say the same thing. Instead of going into details of how abusive he is, people really do not need to know.
My household was a two parent household for a long time. My mom tried to stay in her marriage "for us kids". But it traumatized all her children who are either being abused by others or are abusive towards others.
